Cyber security is the number one problem for most organizations nowadays. According to new statistics the cost of cybercrime increased to $400 billion worldwide in 2014, and about one million attacks occurred every day in 2015. In his progressive paper, Payani applied a humanistic approach to IT security, he employed Lewin’s behavioral change model – using the human factor in the security process as means to strengthen and improve IT security in any organization.

Payani points to three stages in the security change process. In his research Payani firstly proves that instead of forcing employees to blindly follow the rules, they should be made aware and fully understand why there are rules in place and how following them can improve security. Following that, employees should be supported and motivated to see the importance of new practices and apply new behaviors which can be reinforced by discussion groups where employees can share their experiences. Lastly, when the new security policy of the organization is introduced to all employees, management should provide stability after the changes have been made so that the security policies become the new norm. This can be further helped by showing the employees the effectiveness of the new polices and their own new behaviors.

But can this really be done in practice?

Payani has tested his model in a customer technology company and the results were visible within a month – there was a significant decrease in security incidents, falling by over 60%. The employees’ willingness to follow security procedures, on the other hand, has increased by over 50%.

WASHINGTON, DC – 12/6/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — National Education Foundation (NEF), the national non-profit leader in K-12 STEM+ education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Reading, IT, Business, Career Tech) in partnership with the State University of New York (SUNY), announces a significant national STEM initiative to provide world-class STEM+ education in academics and application to students of disadvantaged school districts/schools.

The grants help to fund the implementation of the results-based STEM+ academies in each school by the State University of New York (SUNY). Public schools, school districts, charter and parochial schools must have 35% or more students on free or reduced-cost meals to be eligible for these grants.

Schools receive the following eight services: personalized learning for every student with top-rated STEM+ courses mapped to every state’s standards, stipends for teachers, state-of-the art learning management system, mentoring, motivational rewards including gift certificates, Minecraft etc., teacher professional development, job skills training for parents and tech support.

The program is very flexible, with 24/7 online course access that can be deployed by Teachers in the classroom, afterschool, or at home. Every student, teacher or parent, who successfully completes any course, receives a course completion certificate from the State University of New York, and possibly credits.

Highlighting the importance of the national initiative, Dr. Appu Kuttan, NEF Chairman and globally recognized STEM leader, stated, “U.S. students are currently ranked in the bottom 50% in math globally. For us to maintain our technology and economic leadership globally, we need to substantially improve STEM education, especially in our disadvantaged schools. Mrs. Scott has always been a fighter with a smiling face but presently she is running out of time and has this one last wish to meet her grandkids for the first & last time.

The crowdfunding campaign is geared to raise around $5,000.

“I don’t know how to start this but I have to put this before you for the sake of my beloved mom. A great role model for her children, our mom has always taught us to never give up in the face of challenges and keep on fighting with a positive attitude. We always knew we could rush to her anytime for comfort, strength and protection whenever there is any trouble in our life. She is also an extremely doted grand mom to her grandkids and they love her too. Unfortunately, she has never met them till date. Today, she is terminally ill and her health is failing fast. But the valiant lady that my mom is, she is fighting still in the face of death. However, the doctors in her hospice center has said that she only has a few days left and her last wish is to meet her grandchildren whom she has never met before. They live in another country and it would mean a sizeable financial backup to bring them to her- thus this crowdfunding campaign. Mrs. Scott has always been an inspiring figure who knew how to stand tall amidst all the hurdles thrown by life. The struggles that she had to face were more than anybody could ever imagine. Her first husband was a sick pedophile and her second husband- though he seemed normal initially, yet did not take long to show his true colors as a menacing alcoholic abuser. Still worst, she had to endure not one but as many as 9 miscarriages. However, despite all the obstacles, she raised her children single-handedly and never made them feel the absence of a father-figure and she did all these with a strong mind and smiling face. Her children and grandchildren are proud to have such a positive rock-solid mother and grandmother like her.

In spite of all her struggles with her husbands and mishaps like multiple miscarriages, amputations and ailing health- she has taught us to never-say-die and to keep on fighting with a pure heart and smiling face. Even with just a few days of her life left and her body giving out, she is holding on strong and it’s time for us to fight for her.
