“The light used does not penetrate beyond the depths of the hair follicle and internal organs are in no way affected, nor is fertility,” Dr. Konstantin Zakashansky, a gynecologic-oncologist at The Mount Sinai Hospital said.

Altia to Present GUI Development Workshop at UK Device Developers’ Conference 2016 in Cambridge

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – February 8, 2016 – The UK Device Developers’ Conference 2016, an event for engineers and software developers working in the development of intelligent systems and devices, will take place April 27-28, 2016 near Cambridge. The conference will be co-located with H/WExpo, a conference for hardware developers.

Altia, a global leader in graphical user interface development software, has announced that it will be running a one-day workshop at this year’s event.

With hardware provided by Intelligent Display Solutions (IDS) and STMicroelectronics, the workshop will cover the complete development process for an embedded GUI using Altia’s model-based development tool chain, which provides developers with the capability to create a user interface that is both compelling and intuitive for the end-user, yet tailored to the memory and processing power available.

“In an embedded system, the quality, beauty and responsiveness of the GUI speaks volumes about what’s under the hood,” said Julian Coates, Northern Europe Business Manager. “In this workshop, we will be sharing our knowledge and experience of GUI design and give attendees the opportunity to test drive our industry-standard development software. Developers will also have the opportunity to spend a day with one of the world’s leading experts in this field, Dr. Rene Schumann.”

Dr. Rene Schumann, European Technical Manager at Altia, will lead the training on Altia’s model-based development tool suite, which will cover the complete Altia development process. The workshop will cover graphics creation and importation, building and editing the GUI simulation model, generating and running the code on targets ranging from low-cost microcontrollers with no RTOS and minimal memory to embedded Linux platforms, to standard PC-level Windows applications platforms for early-stage design validation.

Intelligent Display Solutions (IDS) and STMicroelectronics will both be sponsors of the workshop, providing the necessary hardware for the hands-on session. IDS has agreed to sponsor the embedded-Linux platform in the workshop, while STMicroelectronics will be sponsoring the “bare-metal” part of the workshop.

Florist Says, “Save Money And Embarrassment On Valentine’s Day Flowers”

Bud Dauphin, a florist in Minneapolis, MN, from Schaaf Floral, wants to warn people about deceptive advertising practices of florists on the internet. Although a law has been passed to prevent out of state companies from pretending to be local, the practice continues. He has released information helping people to avoid this type of scam.

Minneapolis, Minnesota florist Bud Dauphin from Schaaf Floral has revealed how deceptive advertising on the internet is costing the consumer not only money but embarrassment from under-value floral arrangements being sent out in their names. He explains that flower buyers can protect themselves from being cheated with their flower purchases.

“Right now many flower customers are being cheated by out of state companies pretending to be local in cities throughout the country,” says Bud Dauphin. The Order Gatherer takes the order, takes a large commission for himself and sends it on to a local florist to fill.  By the time the recipient receives the order, it is way undervalued and many times draws a complaint from the sender if they find out what was received. “Times are tough enough and we all work hard. We don’t need to be cheated out of our hard earned money.”

Two lawmakers in the 2009-2010 Minnesota Legislature tried to ban this behavior by passing a law making this practice illegal. Rep. Steve Simon and Sen. Sandy Pappas worked hard to help the floral and locksmith industry.

These directory scams were banned, which means out of state companies can no longer pretend to be homegrown Minnesota businesses. They will be guilty of deceptive business practices under a new law sponsored by Rep. Steve Simon (DFL St. Louis Park) and Sen. Sandy Pappas (DFL St. Paul). The new law makes it illegal for companies to misrepresent their location in phone directories, print ads and the internet. The companies overcharge customers who place orders, transfer the orders to actual Minnesota companies and then keep the difference as profit. Scammers have targeted the floral and locksmith industries in particular. The law generally states that a business misrepresents its geographic location if: they represent themselves to be at a location where there is not at least one owner or employee regularly performing services, and they set up a local phone number that routinely routes calls to out-of-state call centers. The case number is HF3277*SF3102/CH235.

“The passing of this legislation has not stopped the directory scams, but there is an easy solution,” explains Dauphin. “Do not choose businesses buying Google ads as they are usually deceptive florists. Go to the businesses in the Google maps that show actual addresses and check their reviews to get an idea of their professionalism.”

When calling a florist, people are encouraged to ask for their local number, not the 800 or 888 number and call them back if they have one. They should also ask if the florist actually has a store in the location they are advertising in. People should also inquire about their local address and tell them they want to visit it. If they mention they have an affiliate, then that particular business is actually an Order Gatherer and should be avoided.

National eDiscovery and Managed Services Provider formalizes its longtime partnership with Cyber Security and Digital Forensics Firm.

BUFFALO, NY – 09 Feb, 2016 – Avalon Document Services, a national provider of eDiscovery, managed services, and traditional litigation support services to law firms and corporations, today announced that it has joined forces with Buffalo-based DIGITS LLC, a national provider of digital forensics and cyber security services. The deal formalizes a long-standing relationship between the entities as Avalon owners JP Midgley and Shawn Thrall close on an equity position alongside DIGITS’s CEO, Michael McCartney.

Avalon and DIGITS will condense offices in Rochester and Cleveland and merge headquarters in Avalon’s office at 741 Main Street in Buffalo. The deal brings together over 120 professionals, making it one of the nation’s largest providers of eDiscovery, digital forensics, and cyber security services.
