Former Polycom CEO Andy Miller hopes to inspire others to support under-recognized Bay Area charitable organizations with a ‘Seven for Seven’ personal giving campaign.

DANVILLE, CA – 16 May, 2017 – Veteran technology-industry CEO Andy M. Miller is launching an initiative this week to increase support for under-recognized Bay Area charitable organizations. He plans to contribute an initial total of $25,000 to seven local non-profit groups in seven days, starting today with the Javistrong54 Foundation.

The Javistrong54 Foundation is raising funds for the family of Danville, Calif., student-athlete Jake Javier, who was paralyzed from the chest down last year in a tragic swimming pool accident. Javier, captain of the San Ramon High School football team, had won a scholarship before the accident to play football and study mechanical engineering at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. This spring, he started online classes at Cal Poly while undergoing a intense rehabilitation program, and has received an experimental stem cell treatment that may eventually allow him to regain additional muscle function.

“I was so moved by Jake’s story that I needed to do something,” says Miller, who has served as CEO of Polycom and Tandberg, and in other senior positions for companies including Cisco, IPC Systems and Monster Worldwide. “I’m pleased to be able to help cover at least some of the Javier family’s substantial medical bills, and I strongly encourage others to help out as well.”

Throughout his career, Miller has seen most corporate philanthropy directed toward larger charitable organizations, while smaller non-profit programs are all-too-often overlooked. “Local charities do incredible work,” he says, “but they often fly under the radar screen because they simply don’t have the manpower or money to publicize their efforts.” That’s why he has identified seven local charities making a difference in their communities and, as part of his personal “Seven for Seven” initiative, will be making a charitable contribution to one of them at a time over the next two weeks.

“Andy’s efforts to boost support for local charities should be an inspiration to us all,” says Kim Liss, a Danville, Calif.-based philanthropy consultant. “I look forward to learning which charities he has selected, and hope that this initiative will encourage others to contribute their time and money to these and other under-appreciated community organizations.”

Javistrong54 Foundation is partnering with former San Francisco 49ers star Ronnie Lott and his All Stars Helping Kids foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization, to host the 1st Annual JaviStrong54 Golf Tournament on June 19, 2017 at the Blackhawk Country Club Lakeside Course in Danville. All proceeds go directly towards the medical bills of Javier and others with spinal cord injuries.

South Asian Community Leader Dilip Chauhan honored at Star Network Kings of Long Island Award

LONG ISLAND, NY – 16 May, 2017 – It certainly was a night to remember at the annual Star Network Kings of Long Island Awards and Networking Event.

On Thursday, April 6, nearly 500 people from all walks of life gathered at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck to recognize 45 men from Nassau and Suffolk Counties for their exemplary work in business and the community.

“You are the stars of tonight,” said Victoria Schneps, publisher of The Queens Courier and founder of the Star Network. “We are all thrilled to have you with us.”

The evening kicked off with a cocktail hour in which honorees and their guests could mix, mingle and get to know each other. Many congratulated each other and were excited to be recognized.

“I would like congratulate all of my fellow honorees,” said Anil Kapoor, President & CEO of SVAM International and recipient of the Excellence in Technology Award. “It’s great to be here tonight.”

Steven D. Lichtenstein, CLU, ChFC at Forest Hills Financial Group, said, “It feels wonderful to be hanging out with a group of very successful businessmen and women from Long Island.”

Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos was in attendance that evening, offering his congratulations to all of the honorees.

“I would like to congratulate you for your accomplishments,” said Comptroller Maragos. “Each one of you is an incredibly accomplished, and I know you have a lot more to give.”

As the night went on, everyone gathered in the main dining hall to receive their awards for the evening. Ashley Edwards, who was crowned Miss Long Island 2017, was also in attendance at the event.

Dilip Chauhan was recognized as one of the most prominent and dedicated advocate for the South Asian-American community.  Dilip has touched the lives of so many people through his unwavering support for those in his community. Through his “Gateway to South Asian American Community Presentation” Dilip has connected countless corporate, nonprofit, academic, faith-based, and government leaders to the South Asian-American community.  He currently serves as a Senior Advisor to the Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos. In his previous role as the Director of Southeast Asian Affairs for the Nassau County Comptroller’s office, he educated small business owners about govt. business opportunity available for MWBE. Dilip currently sits on the Boards of Service Now for Adult Persons (SNAP) and South Asian American Voice. In recognition of his accomplishments in his community, Congresswoman Grace Meng designated November 12th 2016 as “Dilip Chauhan Day” within the 6th Congressional District. More ever, Dilip’s stellar service recently earned him New York State and City Hall’s Political Rising Star “40 under 40” award among other prestigious honors.

Dilip Chauhan humbly accepted and dedicated his Award to the fast Growing South Asian American community. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. It is the best advice that I have received, and the best advice that I can give to anyone.  Try it!

The evening’s raffle raised nearly $4,000, thanks to a very generous donation by honoree Danny Pisani, who bid – and won – on the trip to Cancun. Proceeds from the raffles went to support EIHAB Human Services and The United Family Beacon House.

Poway Weapons and Gear, Premier Gun Range in San Diego, Announces Date For Annual Community Expo

Poway, CAPoway Weapons and Gear Shooting Range is delighted to announce the date for this year’s annual Community Expo. The event will take place on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 and will give attendees the opportunity to meet local and national vendors, and raise money for various local charities.

The event follows on from the success of last year, where over $16,200 was raised for local law enforcement and military charities, and 4396lbs of canned foods were donated to a local food bank. The event is set to be a spectacular success with 42 different firearms available for demonstration, and education purposes. Attendees at PWG gun range, will also have the opportunity to shoot the firearms, enjoy excellent food and drink from a wide range of providers, and also get to meet national and local law enforcement and military recruiters.

Local Police Honored With New Website and Thank-You Card

CHICAGO – 16 May, 2017 – Police morale is at a very low point in our country. Police fatalities have risen sharply in recent years and many of our brave police officers are afraid that doing their duty will result in a career ending backlash. In honor of National Police Week held yearly from May 11-17 in Washington, DC, a new website and thank you card has been designed to provide a means for willing individuals to thank the local police in their community for serving and protecting our citizens. The purpose of this movement is to attempt to improve the moral of police as a whole and demonstrate to them that they still have supporters around the country.

Since police officers wouldn’t normally accept material items in thanks, the special card has been created to honor and thank them for their service. The cards are slim mini-cards and only measure a few inches wide. This will allow individuals to carry a stack of them around to hand out as they see police officers doing their duty and protecting our citizens. The cards may be small, but they contain a strong message.

The law enforcement officer who receives the card can also easily carry around the card or post it in a place that they will see it everyday. The hope is that the card will provide encouragement and a reminder that their efforts are recognized and appreciated.

The website and handout was created by a Chicago based web design and marketing firm owned by a local resident in Chicago. ‘I see police on a regular basis in my neighborhood, and I wanted some way to thank them for keeping me safe. I thought others might feel the same way,’ says founder Chris Maloney.
