LITITZ, PA – 15 May, 2017 – During a May 4 groundbreaking, United Zion Retirement Community announced plans for a $9+ million expansion on its 11 acre campus in Lititz. Executive Director, Philip Burkholder, spoke of the organization exercising its wings while staying grounded in its mission of more than a century of Christian caring.

Expansion plans include building 10 independent living apartments and enhancing the Health Center: transforming semi-private rooms into private accommodations and creating shared spaces for vibrant household “neighborhoods.” These enhancements support United Zion’s person-centered approach to services.

Currently United Zion’s Health Center offers 11 private and 48 semi-private accommodations, serving 59 residents.  Following anticipated completion in spring 2018, the Health Center will serve its residents in 59 private living spaces, some with a shared bath. Each neighborhood cluster of 12-15 residents will enjoy newly-created casual common areas including a nearby great room and an eat-in kitchen. Residents, as they’re interested and able, can join in meal preparation from scratch, which will happen right in their neighborhood using fresh, local ingredients.

United Zion Retirement Community is home to 135 residents across a full range of living options. The addition of 10 independent living apartments responds to market demand for beautiful living spaces that fit the lifestyle and budget of middle income households.
