Hillcrest High School Catapults its Business Education Program and Brings in Business Experts to Share Their Secrets

Hillcrest High School recently took its entrepreneurial training and business development classes for their students to a new level. By offering a day of comprehensive training with some of Utah’s most successful business owners, marketing companies, accountants, staffing agencies and more, Hillcrest has set the standard by which all other Utah high schools will measure themselves.

Two of the presenters for the day were John and Sherry Taylor, of Keep It Marketing.  The Taylors are nationally-recognized experts on using promotional products to market small and large businesses.  Keep It Marketing is one of the select few vendors who help Convergys, Quest Star Gas, and Media One with their external and internal marketing promotions. Keep It Marketing has also helped hundreds of small businesses around Utah ranging from martial arts school to plumbers and banks.

Because of their expertise, the Taylors were asked to give three separate twenty-five minute presentations on entrepreneurial techniques to the business students. Other business and entrepreneurial experts who presented were financial planners, video marketing specialists and bankers.

One teacher stated to his class after the presentation, “I hope you all paid close attention to that presentation because it was probably the most important material you heard all day.”

The day started with a big breakfast for the presenters who were accompanied by a designated student ambassador who was their personal escort for the length of the event. The trainings and workshops took place during the fist half of the students normal class day. The eager students sat, listened and interacted with each presenter in 25 minute workshops.

John Taylor was quoted as saying, “We had a great time teaching the students at Hillcrest. They were excited to learn and they had lots of great questions. It is always fun to help young people who are as motivated as the students we worked with today.”

One of the students said, “I loved John and Sherry’s presentation. They made learning fun and they showed us real world examples of how to use the marketing skills taught in the classroom.”

Teaching entrepreneurial skills is something that more and more progressive high schools are taking part in around the country. The American economy has always been anchored by small businesses and in order for the economic future of our country to remain and to lead the world more schools are sure to jump on board with this type of training.

“Akira’s Flying Wheelchair” – Incredible, New Fantasy-Adventure Novel Announced

BROOKLYN, New York – December 07, 2015 – “Akira’s Flying Wheelchair,” an incredible, new fantasy-adventure novel, was recently announced. What started as a screenplay in college, “Akira’s Flying Wheelchair” will be the first story Balsamo gets to tell. However, like Akira and Nozomi’s path home, the dream of creating his own animated feature is a difficult undertaking that he cannot yet realize. But, he believes the next best thing is to tell this story in the shape of a fully-fledged novel. So, he reached out to the amazingly talented graphic artist Uriah Voth based out in Los Angeles, and he helped craft Balsamo’s idea on a visual platform. Together, they created a beautiful cover that emulates the style of Hayao Miyazaki and sprinkled in a couple Easter eggs that pay homage to some of Miyazaki’s most revered works. However, before everyone can enjoy this magical adventure, Marco needs your help. That’s why he launched this Kickstarter campaign. The goal of this project is to raise $10,000 by December 31, 2015. The funds raised will go towards editor proofreading, printing both softcover and hardcover, artwork, and listing the E-Book.

When and Why Railroad Workers Should File Accident Reports

While invoking FELA rights and succeeding with a claim for compensation does not depend on filing an accident report, submitting official paperwork following a physical injury or major exposure on the job can prove beneficial.
If you work for a railroad, you have rights under a unique law known as the Federal Employers’ Liability Act (a.k.a. FELA).

If you work for a railroad, you have rights under a unique law known as the Federal Employers’ Liability Act (a.k.a. FELA). Enacted in 1908 specifically to allow railroad workers to pursue compensation following on-the-job injuries and illnesses, FELA is often described as a workers’ compensation system or a disability insurance program. It is neither.

Instead, FELA creates an obligation for railroad corporations involved in interstate commerce to pay injury and wrongful death claims directly to their workers who are hurt or become ill as a proximate result of doing their jobs. Unfortunately, many railroads attempt to shirk this responsibility so pursuing compensation under the FELA often requires filing a civil lawsuit and convincing a jury that a railroad was negligent or reckless in failing to keep an employee safe and healthy.

The railroad attorneys with Shapiro, Appleton & Duffan have decades of experience helping injured railroad workers pursue compensation under the FELA. One of the most common arguments FELA defendants use involves asking a judge to dismiss a case because no accident report was received. The argument goes like this: “Because the plaintiff never alerted managers or corporate executives of the problem, no one can be sure that hazardous conditions existed and harm resulted.”

Under FELA, this tactic should rarely, if ever, work. Many good reasons to file accident reports exist, and those are discussed below. At the same time, FELA places no requirements on the injured worker to make a report following an incident that left them injured or ill.

Many FELA Protections Would Be Unavailable if Accident Reports Were Required

A significant number of FELA claims arise from occupational illnesses. Railroad employees are particularly prone to developing cancers and mesothelioma late in their careers or after they retire. Those risks come from years of exposure to diesel fumes and asbestos fibers, as well as from radiation exposure and working around all kinds of industrial chemicals.

Diseases like cancer and mesothelioma do not develop in an instant. No one could believably point to a specific day and time when he or she breathed in the asbestos fiber that triggered their late-in-life fatal illness. For this reason alone, whole categories of work-related health conditions would be excluded from compensation under FELA if the law mandated incident reporting in all instances. This became a particular issue in a case Shapiro, Appleton & Duffan won for the widow of a lifelong railroader who died from multiple forms of lung cancer decades after working in exceedingly unhealthy conditions.

What FELA does require is that a plaintiff file a claim within three years of learning that he or she suffered an injury or received a diagnosis. Rail corporations will question the start of the statute of limitations clock in much the same way that they question the lack of an accident report, a but a skilled and experienced FELA plaintiff’s lawyer will be able to answer such questions.

Filing an Accident Report Can Be a Good Idea

While invoking FELA rights and succeeding with a claim for compensation does not depend on filing an accident report, submitting official paperwork following a physical injury or major exposure on the job can prove beneficial.

First, work rules generally call for making reports of dangerous incidents and unsafe conditions. Complying with such rules prevents suspensions and terminations for withholding information from supervisors. Second, filing an accident report makes it easier to receive excused absences from work, paid time off for treatment and recovery, and insurance coverage. Having a paper trail that begins with an official accident report can make navigating other parts of the return to health and work easier.

Beyond personal benefits, details contained in an accident report can guide a railroad in correcting problems with equipment, procedures and working conditions. A smart and responsible employer will use accident reports as prompts to avoid future accidents.

What Happens if a Railroad Does Not Welcome Accident Reports?

The best case scenario has a railroad acting constructively in the wake of an accident report. Too often, however, a company will look for ways to punish an employee for calling attention to problems. There may be few ways to know when an accident report will be received badly, so it is usually worth filing paperwork after an injury or obvious exposure.

When a pattern of harassment, a demotion, or a firing follows the filing of an accident report, the worker who has been retaliated against should speak with an attorney who specializes in representing rail employees. Whistleblower protections for railroad workers are enforced by the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration, which has a strong track record of holding rail corporations accountable for mistreating employees. Cases brought by OSHA on railroaders’ behalf often bring judgments that included tens of thousands of dollars in punitive damages.

Moe Somani opened his first store in the heart of Vancouver’s Kitsilano, and at one point he was opening stores at the rate of 3 a month internationally.

When the Y2K bug was born, so was Millennium Jeans International with soaring profits and sales that exceeded expectations of any retail clothing store in the new millennium.

When Somani announced the opening of his new international showroom and retail store complex at the prestigious Piaza Oberdan in Milan, profit for Hilfiger stores plummeted well below 35 per cent during the early part of 2000. The company’s net income for the year dropped from GBP 103 million the year before to GBP 70 million.

Hilfiger cites cause for the drop and decline in orders from International department stores as department stores were gearing to purchase Millennium Jeans International. However, Somani’s Chain being privately owned also affected the balance, writes Women’s Wear Daily. Revenues dropped to just under GBP 1 billion from GBP 1.04 billion during the same period last year.

Hilfiger said that it is in talks with The Somani Group about a possible buyout of all International Millennium Jeans stores and the company has also initiated talks with the Moe Somani to cash in at a significant profit.

Where you now see a Hilfiger store, it was initially a Millennium Jeans Store.

Emery Barter, senior vice president of International Asia Marketing and Communications for Hilfiger told bbconline: “Purchase of Somani’s Millennium Jeans International saved the company from bankruptcy. We’re delighted to have purchased Millennium Jeans International. We never imagined anyone would have such an effect on our brand.”

Moe Somani understood exactly what his project was about from the outset, and how to get it done quickly and effectively. Somani was resourceful, creative, and was able to come up with new and innovative approaches to his proposals.

Barter added, “Somani is an astute individual and possesses a superior business acumen, whose insight brought him instant success. Our company underestimated his savvy business skills, and I have no doubt he is plotting another takeover, however, not necessary in the Clothing industry.”

A Steam Heat Exchanger From Maxi-Therm In Montreal Has Changed The Steam Design Basics

Steam has become a vital tool in hospitals, factories, campus colleges, and many industries. It is primarily used for humidification, sterilization, building heat and domestic hot water. It has become a reliable energy that is easy and safe to transport and therefore it is used in cities around the world, like New-York, Boston, Seattle, Montreal, Richmond, etc. However, in over a hundred years the design of the steam heat exchanger has not changed, until now.

The concept consists of using a vertical heat exchanger with a small control valve install on the condensate return line.  By doing so, they flood the heat exchanger. That allows them to extract not only the latent heat but also the sensible heat that is not possible when professionals use a traditional horizontal heat exchanger system.  And because they work on full pressure in the steam inlet, they don’t need a vacuum breaker, so they don’t inject oxygen in you return lines anymore.
