The innovativeness of the “Research and Application of Structure-Activity Relationship of Novel Agarase from New Species”, a project presided over by LIU Yan and funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the highest-ranking natural science fund in China, lies in that it conducts research on the protein sequence-structure-function relationships, examines the various functional motifs of new agarase genes, makes cross comparison of the synergetic roles between these motifs, exchanges expressions, specifies the relevance between key sites and enzyme catalytic mechanisms, and reveals the operating mechanisms of agarase from the perspective of the various functional motifs and synergetic roles between them. The research findings of this Project have provided theoretical and technical support for expanding the wide application of agarase in China.

LIU Yan, who is an outstanding microbiological scientist in China, commands a very important influence in the microbiological field. She has been a reviewer for international journals and SCI papers many times. Meanwhile, she is also a main author of Cell Culture Engineering, a national planned textbook in China.

What is the most astounding part of this story is the fact that this technologically advanced knowledge doesn’t even come from our world. It actually comes from a prehistoric world, a world that we have dismissed as uninteresting and worthless.

Sadly, that prehistoric world is ours, and unbelievably this technological blueprint of the cosmos was painted in a cave 50,000 years ago.  It is a story and a knowledge that is truly staggering, and it will leave you shaken and a changed person. It is a five part film series and it is definitely worth your time.  What is the most amazing thing about these films is that they are released to the public for free. Berry calls this, “The Age of Enlightenment,” and he believes that this leap in knowledge is meant to be for all of us.
