Salem, Oregon – Conservative Christian author D. E. Colombo has overcome the challenges of dyslexia and dysgraphia by writing her first two-part Young Adult Christian Fiction thriller suspense novel “The Devil of Gilding”.

She notes that her degree has definitely added to her writing abilities. She has participated in numerous writing clinics to strengthen her writing skills. Her desire is to live every day of her life for Jesus Christ and to use the talents God has given her to write Christian-based stories worth reading. 

Although she has had a love for words and writing since she was a little girl she has battled with severe dyslexic and dysgraphia. At 10 years old she read at a Kindergarten level and wrote at even a lower level. It was not until she was 13 years old that a book unlocked her abilities, gave her confidence, and she began reading and writing with an unquenchable desire. She loves to read classics and finds that through a combination of the classic style with a modern twist she can share her stories in moving and lovely ways. She states, “My biggest wish is that one of my books might do what a book once did for me and spark an everlasting love for reading and writing, even if it is just for one person!”

A negligence case is an instance where harm or injury occurs as a result of negligence.

Anyone familiar with the law proceeding will be aware of the four elements of negligence that an attorney representing a victim has to show before a defendant such as a person, or a company alleged of a wrongdoing. The defendant must shown to have a legal duty to the plaintiff under the circumstance where the case takes place and that the individual or company breaches it by acting or failing to act in a certain way.  Part of the process is to show a causal relationship between the plaintiff’s injury and the defendant’s action, resulting in damages, such as the plaintiff is harmed or injured.  If the attorney fails to show the presence of just one of the elements, the case will fail.

An apparently simple case may not be seen as such in the eye of law. An often cited example of a “bone inside boneless chicken nuggets”. In a restaurant, a customer is shocked to find a bone in a supposedly boneless chicken nugget, just a moment before he swallows it.  Can an attorney, representing this customer, hold the restaurant as being negligent? The document itself should specify under what circumstances the power of attorney ends, or can be revoked.  This might be, upon the patient regaining consciousness and the medical staff pronouncing the patient able to make decisions upon his own behalf.  It may be simpler, ending after a specific two week period of time.  Or there may be other complexities that should be addressed with regard to finances, for instance, which can make the timeframe the power of attorney effects longer, shorter, or more intermittent.
