MIAMI, FL – 1 Mar, 2016 – LevelFunded Health, an innovative health insurance agency offering small business-focused benefit alternatives to the ACA, explains details how Blue Cross Blue Shield, which has over 75 percent of the existing market share in the small business health insurance sector nationwide, is failing to offer small businesses alternative options to health insurance plans with sky-high premiums. 

Fifty percent of all small businesses are likely dramatically over-paying for health benefits and have no idea they are doing so, thanks to the ACA and companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield, whom often have their own best interest in mind with their narrow suite of product offerings.

Given the Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) requirements of the health insurers due to the ACA, there is zero incentive for the carrier to reduce a businesses’ claim costs in a traditional small-business health insurance plan. If carriers reduce claim costs for their entire book of business, then they will likely have to lower premiums the following year to stay compliant with the MLR rules.

This means that the carrier’s 15 percent of premium that they are allowed to retain will represent less revenue and ultimately less profit, which is certainly not what the carrier, nor its investors, want. Generally speaking, the insurance carrier’s revenues and profits increase as the underlying cost of claims increase. This revenue stream protection by the Blues/carriers is nonsense and unfair, and business owners around the nation should not tolerate it.

“Large health care companies, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, don’t want small businesses to have access to Obamacare alternatives,” said Russ Carpel, CEO of LevelFunded Health. “Offering insurance programs with lower premiums would mean less cash to the bottom line and why would they want that?” 50 percent of small businesses would save approximately 10-40 percent per year if they were not currently buying health insurance from companies like Blue Cross – alternatively opting for a lesser known, yet more efficient benefits option, called a ‘level-funded’ benefits plan. 

There are roughly one million small businesses in the U.S., with ten-to-one hundred full-time employees, of these firms, approximately 500,000 are most likely paying exorbitant amounts for their health benefits. The best option for many small businesses, particularly those that employ a fairly healthy population, is to choose a plan in which they would be protected with stop-loss insurance and see a rebate on their annual premiums for healthy employees, unlike those traditional small business health policies offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield. 

Level-funded programs can use medical underwriting, allowed under ERISA – and therefore are why the savings can be so great for many small businesses across the U.S. “Blue Cross and their network of thousands of independent agents and brokers nationwide are minting cash by pushing these traditional plans, which are now governed by the ACA,” added Carpel. 

While it’s in the best interest of the small business owner to know these plans exist, it’s not in the best interest of the existing broker community, nor is it the best interest of major insurance companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Other than the rare earthquake or settling of an older structure, the overwhelming majority of cracking in concrete decks is caused by thermal cracking. The daily fluctuation in ambient temperatures results in a warm portion of the concrete and a cool portion of the concrete. Cool concrete contracts and warm concrete does not contract and actually expands. If you have one portion of the concrete contracting and another portion not contracting or expanding, it will result in tensile stresses and once those tensile stresses exceed the in-place concrete tensile strength, the concrete will crack.

When coated with EPOX-Z the concrete surface no longer has cool sections and warm sections. The differential will be significantly less than 20° C, the temperature differential which causes cracking. 

With its outstanding adhesion, reflectivity, and absence of UV degradation, there is virtually no chalking or deterioration caused by water intrusion, there is no thermal flux. Consequently there is no significant expansion and contraction over time which prevents thermal cracks on EPOX-Z coated concrete decks.

1 Mar, 2016 – Binge drinking is a dangerous and costly activity that doesn’t only affect young adults. While the behavior is often more subtle in older adults, it is no less harmful or concerning. And as people age, they are more likely to suffer the progressive health consequences of bouts of heavy drinking. If you are concerned about your binge drinking habits, it may be time to consider regulating your drinking or abstaining altogether.

Be Honest With Yourself

The first step in quitting binge drinking is to accept that it’s a pattern in your life. Hiding it or pretending it isn’t an issue won’t help you to stop doing it. Being a binge drinker does not necessarily mean you are an alcoholic or that you are alcohol dependent. In fact, most binge drinkers are not physically alcohol dependent. Many binge only on occasion and may even drink very infrequently in between. However, when they do drink, they consistently overindulge.

If your drinking patterns qualify as “binge drinking,” you must decide what that means to you. Does it matter to you? Do you want to stop? Are friends or family members expressing concern? Not all people want to stop. They like going out every weekend and getting plowed. They might acknowledge that the behavior is less than healthy or safe, but they aren’t so convinced as to want to eliminate it. You may feel guilty the next day or even have experienced negative consequences, but this isn’t always sufficient reason to eliminate these sorts of drinking patterns.

Have a “Why” do you want to stop 

On the other hand, it is possible that you are seeing some of the negative effects of your drinking patterns and you are genuinely concerned. If that is the case, and you are seeking help because you do indeed want to stop the behavior, the next step is to start to define the ways in which alcohol and binge drinking are affecting your life. Be able to answer the questions: Why do I want to stop drinking the way I do? What are the negative consequences of my drinking?

Experiment and stick to it

Depending on your level of dependence on alcohol, cutting back may or may not be possible. Some people, upon becoming conscious of the fact that their drinking has become excessive, are able to make a decision to moderate, and then cut back their intake or avoid situations in which they are likely to binge. Others, however, once they start drinking, will naturally gravitate toward another and another. And as they drink, their inhibitions lower and the good intentions are quickly forgotten.

Try it out. Decide in advance how much you want to drink and then endeavor to stick to it. If after a few attempts you find yourself hammered when you said you wouldn’t be, attempted moderation alone may not be an effective means of ending your binge drinking behavior.

Tips for Cutting Back

There is not one perfect solution for eliminating binge drinking behavior and getting accustomed to drinking normally. And for some it will be impossible. Abstinence will be the only solution. But there are various ways you may try to end dangerous binge drinking behavior without giving up alcohol altogether.

Some may want to begin by swearing off for a period of time, such as a month or even six months. This allows the individual to cleanse his or her system and to think, soberly, about what might be driving the binge drinking behavior. For some, an accountability partner can be helpful. The knowledge that someone else is supporting you and will be checking up on you can help to inspire more positive behavior. It also helps to find non-alcohol rewards. Perhaps you challenge yourself to make it a certain number of months without binge drinking and set up a reward if you attain it. Meeting with a therapist can also be beneficial. Find out what sorts of methods will help you to stay on track with your goals.

If You Find You Can’t Moderate

As mentioned above, not all binge drinkers are alcohol dependent, but many are walking ever closer to the alcoholic cliff. If your drinking is approaching alcoholic classifications, cutting back won’t work for you and you will find yourself repeatedly falling into the same old patterns. If this is the case, abstinence may be your only reliable means of getting your drinking under control.

SEATTLE, Washington – 1 Mar, 2016 – Root Academy launched an IndieGoGo campaign to raise $25,000 by March 17, 2016. The campaign supports a new model for education for preschool to 8^th grade. The program integrates three systems: martial arts, Japanese philosophy, and Montessori education. This diverse education approach will teach children of all abilities and give them the necessary tools needed to reach their full potential. 

This unique approach is a balanced and inclusive experience to promote independent thinking, creative problem solving, a deep sense of empathy and connection. The model prepares children to become an active member of society. Teaching martial arts builds confidence and a strong sense of self. The Japanese philosophy teaches children how to use their unique talents to help their community. In the Montessori model, teachers gently guide students in a positive, nurturing atmosphere that promotes independent learning. Students of all ages with unique abilities and challenges are part of the classroom experience. It’s an excellent model to guide children on how to work together, which is a great skill every adult should possess.

Funds raised from the campaign will cover salaries for the staff and teachers, cover expenses, classroom materials, martial arts training equipment, and lease the building.
