Lindenhurst Holiday Light Display to Support Free Cancer Treatment for Kids at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital

Lindenhurst, NY – December 5, 2017 – With their holiday light display located on Waco Street in Lindenhurst, NY, known to the neighborhood as the “Waco Street Lights”, The Murphy family are organizing their annual holiday light display as a fundraiser for Memphis TN based St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, where new treatments have pushed the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to over 80 percent over its fifty year history. The funds raised will help St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital continue to lead the quest to understand, treat and conquer childhood cancer for kids all over the world.

This year marks the 7th year of the family’s ever growing holiday light display, in which neighbors flock to get a dose of holiday cheer and give back to those in need. Featuring a 20-foot tall “mega tree”, computer controlled rooftop snowflakes, thousands of lights and a snow machine, the Waco Street Lights house hopes to brighten the holidays for the Long Island town and the many families receiving care at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The funds raised through the residential holiday light display will go towards ensuring that families continue to receive free treatment along with travel, housing and food coverage.

“We won’t stop until no child dies from cancer. Our founder believed that “no child should die in the dawn of life,” and we’ve spent more than half a century focusing on our mission: Finding cures. Saving children,” said a spokesperson from St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

“Stop by, bring the kids, and enjoy thousands of lights, Christmas music, and new this year, a Snow Machine! All proceeds benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Wishing everyone the brightest of holiday seasons!” says homeowner and architect of the massive display, Mike Murphy.

The majority of funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital come from individual contributors. They allow the hospital to focus on saving kids irrespective of their financial situation. Nearly 75 percent of the hospital’s funds come from generous donors. St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital also freely shares its breakthroughs, so that every child saved also helps to inform doctors and scientist worldwide to utilize new knowledge and save other kids. The hospital has treated children from all over the US and worldwide.

“To be able to just get my son here and not think about how we will pay for it, it just takes so much weight off of my family,” says Adrienne, patient Bryce’s mother.
