NEW YORK, NY – 17 Aug, 2017 – Music Artist Jason “Malletman” Taylor, the virtuoso of Vibrafunk, is releasing his newest EP “It’s A Groove” at a pre-release party Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in Manhattan, New York City’s hottest spot – The Cutting Room.  The EP contains four songs; “It’s A Groove”, “YOU”, “Watchin’ You”, and “M-A-L-L-E-T” (remix).  Taylor, the incomparable master of the vibraphone, was the protégé of the late great Lionel Hampton. Taylor will celebrate the release of his new music with a live performance with an “All Star Band”.

Taylor brings legends of the funk world together on this R&B, Funk project with a touch of jazz. “It’s A Groove” EP features two-time Grammy winner George Clinton, known as the 70’s Funk Master and two-time Soul Train Music nominee vocalist Tony Terry as well as Taylor’s protégé, Devone “Da-vine Tuch” Allison on keyboards.

“It’s A Groove” will be released by Mallet Records on August 24, 2017 and will be available at www.malletsplace.com, CD Baby and iTunes.

“It’s A Groove” was produced by the talented Eric “E-Bass” Johnson who has performed with Kayne West, Jay Z, Snoop Dog and Maria Carey.

“Writing the music for ‘It’s A Groove’ inspired me to continue my mission of keeping real music alive”, says Taylor.  “Performing, practicing and jamming with talented musicians on real instruments is very important to me – it keeps me structured and is good therapy for the mind,” said Taylor, who is originally from Brooklyn, New York.

The music was recorded at 564 Studio in Orange, New Jersey where Lady Gaga recorded some of her tracks; as well as a private location in East Orange, New Jersey where George Clinton, Slave, Stephen “TFL” Washington and other members from Parliament Funkadelic recorded their music.

Taylor created a signature sound that he calls “Vibrafunk”. He started playing the drums at the age of 12, soon thereafter, he was introduced to Hampton’s music. When Taylor personally met Hampton, Taylor impressed him so much that he took the young “Malletman” as his protégé and became his mentor. Taylor became dedicated to mastering the “vibes” just like Hampton on the xylophone and then fell in love with the vibraphone. In addition to touring the US and Europe with Hampton and his 18-piece band, Taylor also lived with him and received priceless personal training and experience.

Taylor has opened for various musical icons such as Earth Wind and Fire, Isaac Hayes, Pancho Sanchez, The Manhattans, and Paquito D’Rivera just to name a few.

Taylor is a Yamaha artist and clinician who presents music clinics and master classes throughout the United States at schools, colleges, music stores and churches. In addition to Yamaha and Mike Balter Mallets, Taylor serves as an endorser for AKG Acoustics, Dream Cymbals, and Reunion Blues Gig Bags and Cases. Young Patient With Autism Improves After Stem Cell Therapy Program

Fremont Master Guitarist to Start his 48th Year at Ohlone College

FREMONT, CALIFORNIA – 17 Aug, 2017 – Doug Torres, the modest guitar maestro with unparalleled teaching abilities, is about to start his 48th year as the classical guitar master at Ohlone College in Fremont, California. Creator of the Ohlone College classical guitar program in 1969, a youthful Doug Torres used his energies to establish classical guitar into the classical music establishment which at the time commonly viewed guitarists unfavorably. Over time he built the Ohlone College classical guitar from scratch and developed it to world class standards. 

Doug was and is a teacher of rare distinction. At 70 he remains a relevant guitarist with an easygoing personality that keeps him in demand both as a studio guitarist and as an educator. Mr. Torres credits his “mellow approach” as the secret behind his uncommon longevity as a professional guitarist. His zen-like attitude about life and music is a gift he openly shares with his students weekly at Ohlone College.

Born in Oakland, California to a Portuguese family of little means, Doug grew up playing the guitar. As a teenager, he studied the instrument with Bud Eastman(of Guitar Player Magazine, Guitar Showcase, Musicians Friend, etc.) and such was his progress that he placed first in several prominent international guitar competitions. As a young adult, Doug attended Cal State Hayward(now Cal State East Bay) earning degrees in BA in Music(1968) and a Masters in Music Education(1970) while simultaneously operating a popular guitar studio in Castro Valley and teaching classical guitar at Ohlone College. Beginning in 1974, Doug branched out to found guitar programs at other local colleges most notably Foothill College in Los Altos and DeAnza College in Cupertino. Worried about possible cuts in arts funding from the state of California, Doug returned to college to earn his Elementary and Secondary Teaching Credential as well as another degree in administration. Faced with the difficult challenges of providing for his family in a down economy, Mr. Torres decided to close his music studio, cancel his tours and take the steady employment of a full time elementary school teacher and part time college music educator.

Doug’s current curriculum is based heavily on the classical heritage of Johann Sebastian Bach, Fernando Sor, Ferdinando Carulli, Mauro Giuliani, Francisco Tarrega, Isaac Albeniz, Andres Segovia and of course his own compositions. Students will learn to read music as well as use proper classical guitar technique. With six sections offered for players of varying skill levels, Doug’s Fall Semester classes at Ohlone College are the perfect option for guitarists of all abilities looking to enhance their knowledge of the instrument’s classical heritage. Class starts on Thursday evening at 6:30pm, August 31st, 2017 and will meet weekly throughout the Fall Semester in portable FP11.

Donny Richmond Stars in History Making Elvis Presley Spectacle

August 16, 2017 marked 40 years since the untimely passing of Elvis Presley

Multi-award winning international recording star and movie actor from America, Donny Richmond, is known for creating unique concepts. Among these was a monumental collaboration several years ago. With Donny as featured singer, a recording was made with the largest contingent in history of Elvis Presley’s former studio musicians to back up any singer, other than Elvis himself. Richmond, himself, was amazed to have received the honor, as every requested member of Elvis’ personal entourage who was living or active at the time, happily accepted the invitation to be a part of this momentous get together. It seems that Donny’s Nashville based music and interview TV program, with its’ large following, was enjoyed by Elvis’ sidemen.

The music recording and video were then completed over a period of several months, but remained hidden on a studio shelf, and were not together released until 2015. Currently, new interest in the song has sparked international sales on iTunes, and growing media attention. It is now noted that this was a historic, never to be repeated event, as many of Elvis Presley’s musicians have since passed away.

The World Keeps Loving Elvis” is actually a beautiful love song, typical of Elvis, with lyrics ingeniously constructed around subtle references to 25 of Elvis’ songs! The song is immaculately sung by Donny, and the musicians all demonstrate their long-time hit making expertise. For the making of the music video (as seen on YouTube), Donny Richmond was also given access to Elvis Presley’s coat, some of his jewelry, and one of his Cadillac cars. It is said that this recording is “One for The Guinness Book of World Records!”

Words and music to “The World Keeps Loving Elvis” were written by Donny Richmond and fellow Nashville songwriter, David Walker. The Daily Grind will close at the end of August 2017. The space will be renovated and remodeled, and scheduled to reopen under the Cold Pressed Brand in mid October 2017. This will be their flagship location. The design of the space will incorporate natural materials, soft lighting, with a sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere. A new bar will be constructed to increase seating capacity. Every detail of the space is being chosen with intention to reflect the handcrafted nature of the experience.
