Portrayals of frailty and dependency in ads annoy and exasperate

BOULDER, CO – 19 Jul, 2017 – The Boomer/neXt population, which consists of the entirety of the Baby Boom generation (ages 53-71) and those members of Generation X now in their early 50s, highly values advertising and enjoys layers of involvement with brands, but a significant segment says “do better” to marketers regarding how they come across in many current media depictions.

74 percent of this population agree that advertising is useful in influencing buying decisions

*  78 percent say they think more positively about a brand if the advertising for it is done well.  However, a product that is frequently advertised doesn’t mean it’s a good product; 63% of Boomer/neXt respondents reject that notion

* 42 percent are bothered by how people their age are depicted in advertisements.  Among female Boomers aged 62 to 71, the percentage rises to 49 percent

“Boomers have been marketed to all their lives and have seen advertising trends come and go, so they are experts at spotting hype and hokum,” says Barry Robertson, Partner at Boomer/neXt.

“For example, whenever members of this population are portrayed as foolish, feeble, befuddled or in desperate need of handfuls of pharmaceuticals, it serves as an immediate turnoff,” he added.  “This population relates better to ads in which, depicted appropriate to their ages and life stages, they’re active, healthy, enjoying life and engaged with the world.”

When done right, approval pours forth: “I like when we are mostly depicted as vibrant and having a full life,” commented a 58-year-old male survey participant.  “They are getting better—now not everyone looks like Ozzie Nelson wandering around in a cardigan” opined a 69-year-old man.  A 55-year-old woman comments, “I like when people my age are presented as active and full of energy, because we are.”  And a 68-year-old female says “I like when my age is appreciated, even celebrated in advertising.  It is time to age with grace.”

Some, however, can’t find themselves in advertising.  A 50-year-old man says “people my age aren’t ever depicted in ads,” while a man 20 years older opines “except for pharmaceuticals, there are few advertisements with people my age.”  A woman in her mid-60s states “at my age, you’d think we dropped off the face of the earth—we never show up!”

And when an ad rankles, the critiques can be blistering.  “Guys my age are depicted as either doddering old farts or lecherous men chasing after young women with the help of Viagra” comments a 65-year-old man.  A 55-year-old male says “you’d think we all wear Depends and rely on Metamucil.”  A 52-year-old woman regrets that “it’s a shame we only show up in insurance or pharmaceutical ads.  People over 50 travel, use technology, and spend money.”  A male in his late 60s says “we’re all helpless idiots who don’t have a clue.”   A 59-year-old women comments “the assumption is that most of us are rapidly approaching senility.”  And a 70-year-old women complains that “I’m into meditation, not medication, but the ads I see would never show a person my age in that light.”  A 63-year-old women complains, “Help! Help! Help!—we are always, always shown needing ‘help’ in almost every facet of our lives.  Enough already!”  Lastly, a 54-year-old man observes “we’re usually depicted as having bad attitudes about life in general.”

*  With respect to brand choices, 92 percent of the Boomer/neXt population tries to gather a lot of information about products before any key purchase is made, and 87 percent say they enjoy learning about and trying new products

*  This population are confident consumers: 76 percent agree that they never have problems judging whether a brand is right for them or not

*  67 percent say they are always on the lookout for new brands to try

*  Beware to the brand that disappoints:  nearly all (97 percent) say they would not hesitate in switching to a competitor under such circumstances

* Nearly half of survey participants (46%) say that they probably do more internet shopping than the average person. 

“In the U.S. the 50+ population controls over 70 percent of the nation’s disposable income, but outside the wealth and health sectors, businesses are budgeting less than 10 percent of all marketing dollars on them.  This disconnect leads to a feeling that they are invisible and ill-served,” says Robertson.  “Each day a tide of Americans joins the 50+ population, and they remain ready to seek, shop and spend. They want advertising to be on their side, and brands to be ripe for exploration going forward.”

About the Survey

The Boomer/neXt Survey of respondents between the ages of 50 and 71 was conducted online from March 29-31 by esearch.com. Five hundred and ten respondents were interviewed via a representative survey, which corresponds to a margin of error of plus or minus four percent at the 95% level of confidence.  Confidence levels among certain subgroups from the sample may have a higher margin of error.

“I have a book coming out in September that’s called ‘The Salesman Who Doesn’t Sell’ and it basically outlines my observations about today’s customers and what they want. Greenberg explained that since they launched their quoting system, ninety-five percent of their customers select the “no medical exam” term life insurance products. This has led him to seek associations with companies that are reputable and do not require a medical exam. His stated goal for the company is to provide clients with insurance that they can actually use and to do so with honesty and expediency. He explained that many financial planning companies do not offer real insurance brokers but hire low wage call center employees that don’t know the first thing about the products they are selling. This was a problem with the industry and why it hasn’t always had the best reputation in recent years, something he wants to improve.

Tony Saunders   made his bones in New York City as O.G. Foot-C of the Brooklyn, New York Crips in the late 1990s. 3D prostate treatment Shows That Some Ancient Chinese Medicine Have Anti-cancer Properties

Ancient Chinese Medicines Possible Therapeutic for Cancer

In 2015 there were 90 million cases of cancer reported around the world with over 8 million people dying from the disease. These numbers are not only staggering but growing. Environmental and genetic factors seem to be pushing incidences of cancer up and society has been slow to learn to cope. Over the last few decades very little in new therapeutics have been released to the public, often times drugs that look promising fail clinical trials and new drugs that show some hope take years or even decades to pass clinical tests. This slow adoption of new anti-cancer methods have left doctors to use the same treatments to try and eliminate the disease. Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery are often the go to by physicians to treat cancer, however these archaic methods often leave an array of side effects that leave the patient in more pain and anguish during the treatment. The 3D prostate treatment based out of the 3D Urology and Prostate Clinic in China is looking to correct this issue by researching more effective ways to fight cancer, the lab has taken both a next generation approach with gene therapies but also is looking at ancient Chinese medicines. This combination allows the lab to leave no stone unturned when trying to find a safer and more pleasant way to treat all cancers.

Cancer is a rapid and unregulated growth and division of cells, cancer cells lack the checks done in mitosis and can grow rapidly. The rapid growth of cells coupled with the lack of apoptosis can create tumors which can not only weaken a patient but be painful. Classic methods of treating cancers are not able to target cancer cells alone, they look virtually identical to normal cells so medicines end up killing both healthy and cancerous cells. The destruction of non-cancerous cells during cancer treatment can leave patients feeling weak, cause vomiting, hair loss, vertigo, and more. For these reasons a more direct approach to treating cancer is necessary, one that can find unique differences in the cell structures of cancerous and non-cancerous cells and destroy them. The 3D prostate treatment is trying to accomplish this through ancient Chinese medicines. The 3D prostate clinic has recently been successful in targeting cancerous cells with some ancient Chinese medicines and has even created their own “3D prostate targeted treatment” for prostate cancer.

The 3D prostate clinics has looked at many different ancient Chinese medicines for possible anti-cancer properties, the 3D prostate clinics has come to find that some of the items examined do possess tumor suppressing powers. When looking at the ancient Chinese medicine, rhizoma Curcumae was the most prominent in suppressing tumors. Rhizoma Curcumae is a root from the Curcumae genus, this genus includes species like turmeric and tulip. When the Song Lab analyzed the roots of these plants in vivo they saw extensive anti-cancer properties while leaving healthy cells alone. The mechanism at which the Curcumae roots are able to effectively target cancer cells is not completely understood, but show that there are slight differences between cancerous and non-cancerous cells and that these differences are being exploited by the active ingredients in the roots. The Dr xinping song has also looked at ginseng to accompany the rhizoma Curcumae treatment. Ginseng has been postulated as a compound that can be used for healing. The 3D prostate clinic had decided to test this by dividing people taking Curcumae injections into two groups, one that took Curcumae root extract alone and one that took the Curcumae root extract along with ginseng injections. The findings found that patients who took needles of Ginseng were able to recover quicker from any lingering cancer side effect. The ginseng would increase immune response while also reducing cytotoxic interactions caused by the release of cell content during apoptosis.

The 3D prostate clinics has taken these findings and created their very own prostate cancer treatment, the “3D Prostate Targeted Treatment” by Doctor Song and his team looks to be the next generation treatment in fighting prostate cancer. The 3D prostate treatment stands for determine, destroy and discharge and has been shown to be an effective way in fighting prostate cancer.  When patients come in they go through the determination phase, during this time they are given an extensive round of testing to find the cause of their prostate issues. If the test results come back to be prostate cancer they move onto the destroy phase, the 3D prostate treatment uses their own proprietary medicine to target cancer cells. Using a style similar to ancient Chinese acupuncture a needle full of medicine in inserted into the target site. The needles given during the destruction phase are continuously given until all cancer cells are destroyed. Once the destruction phase is finished the patient moves onto the discharge phase. A needle full of discharge solution is injected and any calcification or other remnants of the cancer are discharged in the urine.  This treatment has been shown to work effectively in treating prostate cancer.

Success Accelerators Announces Fall/Winter Intranet and CRM Event Schedule

Success Accelerators will be conducting a series of workshops and training related to intranets, customer relationship management, and digital workplace and business transformation between September 2017 and January 2018 in Charlotte, NC.

Success Accelerators, the conference division of C5 Insight, Inc. will be conducting a series of one-day and two-day workshops and training events in Charlotte, North Carolina between September 2017 and January 2018. All of the sessions will be held on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Digital Workplace and Business Transformation Roundtable is scheduled for September 26-27, 2017. This interactive workshop is for organizations that are starting, upgrading, or struggling with an intranet project. Participants will learn how to avoid the most common mistakes being made by other organizations; why success is driven more by people than technology; how to go beyond user adoption and build a solid plan for sustained team engagement; and how to create a digital workplace that encourages better lateral and vertical collaboration. Office 365 Power User Training Workshop is scheduled on September 28, 2017. This class is based on the SharePoint Online platform in Microsoft Office 365 and is designed for the site owner, or “power user,” who needs to know how to manage digital lists, libraries, sites, and pages. After completing this course, students will be able to manage and configure sites and navigation; configure sites, themes, titles, descriptions and icons; add users and groups; customize lists and libraries; work with site columns and site content types; configure content approval and versioning; create and modify pages and web part pages; and other aspects of managing an intranet using Office 365.

CRM Success Workshop will be held on November 7-8, 2017. Advanced Learning Institute organized their 7th Internet and Digital Workplace Summit June 20-22, 2017 in San Francisco. The theme of the event was boosting internal communications, collaboration, productivity, and innovation with the latest enterprise intranets, portals, and social platforms.
