Previously Unknown Truths about the Therapeutic Benefits and Effects of Massages on the Human Body Revealed

LOS ANGELES, CA – 15 Dec, 2015 – Top university specialist research groups have most recently broken ground on the incredible, previously unknown benefits that individuals can reap from body massaging. 

While the originators of the massage therapy, the Chinese, have utilized this technique for centuries on end to treat all manner of medical conditions, it hasn’t been until recently that western medical research has begun to legitimately, scratch the surface, so to speak about the profound beneficial effects of massaging. Despite its widespread popularity as a muscle pain relieving technique, little scientific information was actually known about how it actually relieves muscle pain, let alone other benefits or effects that it might have had. 

The best that past study had established was only that a well administered massage session significantly reduced muscle pain but any information about the actual mechanism of pain relief was scanty to say the least. It has now been established that massaging relieves sores by literally turning on genes that are associated with muscle healing and repair whilst simultaneously deactivating the genes associated with inflammation. This has concretely contradicted the prevailing theory by medical experts that massaging assists to squeeze out lactic acid as well as other wastes from the inflamed muscle. 

This newly postulated theory about activation and deactivation of specific genes during massaging was received rather cynically at first up until it was scientifically proved. Mark Tarnopolsky, a researcher specializing in neuro-metabolism from the Mcmaster University in Hamilton, Canada, was such a skeptic of this newly found mechanism until he himself along with colleagues performed comprehensive laboratory tests to establish the validity of this newly found theory. 

Mr Tarnopolsky had himself suffered a hamstring injury in a water-skiing accident about 7 years ago and had to undergo massage therapy as part of the rehabilitation regime that had been prescribed. The therapy proved to be so effective that according to him, “there had to be a psychological basis for this…” he said. He went on to add that, “… and being a cellular scientist, my interest is in the cellular basis.”

In his research, Mr. Tarnopolsky along with fellow colleagues recruited 11 young male volunteers who underwent a highly strenuous cycling exercise session that left their muscles sore and damaged. 10 minutes after their work out, a therapist massaged one of their sore legs. Tissue samples were in the meantime collected from their quadriceps; once before the work out, 10 minutes post-workout and finally 3 hours after the workout. A comparison of the genetic profiles of each sample was then made.

It was detected that there were more indications of cell repair and inflammation in the post-workout samples than in the pre-workout samples which really came as no surprise. What actually baffled the researchers was the significant increase (30%) of the PGC-1alpha gene within the massaged cells. This gene is responsible for aiding muscle cells synthesize or make mitochondria which convert the cell’s food into much needed energy. It was additionally found that the massaged cells also contained at least 3 times as much NFkB as that found in non-massaged cells. The NFkB is directly responsible for activating genes associated with muscle inflammation.

The results were published in the Science Translational Medicine online journal and suggested that massage enhances faster healing whilst suppressing inflammation post-exercise. There was no evidence found to support the long held claims that massage helps clear lactic acid, a by product of muscle tiredness that is firmly believed to cause soreness. 

Research has further proved beyond reasonable doubt that the benefits of massaging extend far beyond relieving muscle pain. 

According to Tiffany Field, a Pediatrics Professor who is founder and head of the Touch Research Institute (TRI) at the University of Miami, School of Medicine, massage, as it turns out, can assist babies born prematurely gain weight as well as assist in soothing the joint pains for arthritis patients. In addition, other surprising benefits of massaging include strengthening immunity as well as alleviating high blood pressure, relieving pain from surgeries and burns amongst other benefits.

Over two thirds of US consumers to use Internet TV this Christmas

12/15/2015 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — Internet TV is on the rise in the US with 67% of consumers planning to use paid services like Netflix and Hulu this Christmas. According to a new Research Now study, commissioned by Paywizard, the expert in subscriber management for pay-TV, 36% of consumers already have an Internet TV subscription in the US and just under a third (31%) plan to subscribe to a streaming service this Christmas. US consumers are most willing to pay for their entertainment experiences, with a massive 80% using paid-for TV services – far greater than other countries surveyed.

With its home field and early mover advantage, demand for Netflix is the greatest at 24% and driven by the younger 18-24 age group, with half (49%) planning to sign up prior to Christmas. Amazon Prime and Hulu followed Netflix as popular choices, each with 10% demand, and newcomer HBO Now at 7% of planned subscriber choices. However, US Internet TV subscribers are not committed to staying with 1 in 8 (13%) planning to end subscriptions in January and 38% of all subscribers planning to leave within 6 months.

These findings are part of a global study highlighting that Internet TV services will be a big hit with consumers around the world this Christmas, with 52% of viewers planning to use an online TV service during the festive season. The study, which surveyed consumers in Australia, Brazil, Germany, Singapore, the UK and US, analyzed how consumers plan on watching TV this Christmas, which TV services they prefer and which devices they plan to use. 

  • 80% of US consumers use paid for TV services, significantly higher than the survey average of 59%
  • Streaming devices are more popular in the US than Europe with 15% of American consumers using these devices  – double the rate of both the UK and Germany
  • Mobile viewing is on the rise, with almost half (48%) of consumers saying they will watch TV over Christmas via a laptop, tablet or smartphone
  • Over 45s in US are 50% less likely to sign up for Internet TV than younger consumers and women in general are 23% less likely to than men
  • US consumers are most likely to watch DVDs, with over a third (34%) of consumers stating they will watch DVDs and boxsets this Christmas.

“As the birth place of many of the leading international Internet TV services, the US market offers a great insight into the rapidly evolving battle between traditional cable and satellite services, new Internet TV players and growing number of content brands going direct-to-consumer,” said Bhavesh Vaghela, Chief Marketing Officer at Paywizard. “Although from first glance the market may appear saturated, our survey revealed that nearly two-thirds of US consumers would consider signing up for more than one service, as long as the package on offer is desirable. The chemistry behind Da-Lite HD Progressive surface is formulated to create a surface free of microscopic variances allowing the screen to essentially disappear. The result is brilliant light, vibrant color, and the best surface for HD, 4K, and Ultra HD projection.

Da-Lite’s chemical formula for their HD Progressive line of projection surfaces is designed to perfectly reflect and preserve the image being projected. When you look closely at a projection screen surface, many surfaces look like varying grains of sandpaper and others have microscopic variations on the surface. This causes pixel loss and “noise” in the image because the surface isn’t able to perfectly reflect the projected image. As projection resolution advances, pixel preservation becomes much more important to preserve the clarity of your image.

At Projector SuperStore, we have several of Da-Lite’s HD Progressive screens available. Gains range from 0.6 to 1.3 with the higher number focusing on more white light and color contrast for higher resolution projectors. HD Progressive 0.6 is ideal for high output projectors or applications where projector brightness and screen size require low gain, the gray surface compensates for a brightly lit environment so that image contrast is preserved. In low ambient light, HD Progressive 0.6 provides deep contrast for a rich enhanced image, and is typically used with video. In comparison, HD Progressive 1.3 is ideal for applications where projector brightness and screen size require an increase in gain. The purest white HD Progressive surface offers true color reproduction and allows for more flexibility with ambient light conditions. It also allows for easy viewing of detail in video as well as charts and graphs in a corporate setting. All HD Progressive Screens are seamless in any width up to 16′ in height, and since they are flame retardant and mildew resistant, screens are easily and properly cleaned with mild soap and water.

NAPLES, FL – 12/15/2015 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — Local nature blogger and former Clam Pass Park Tram Driver Bernie Rath has teamed up with talented local artist Margit Heiss to produce a new illustrated book entitled A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE BEACH: Tall True Tales of Zany Animals and Crazy People Making Mayhem in the Mangroves of Florida.    It is available in both the Kindle Format and soft-cover from Amazon.com and in paperback from The Conservancy of SW Florida gift shop. 

This humorous, light-hearted book is an account of the author’s nearly decade long “senior career” as a tram driver at Clam Pass Park in the Pelican Bay area of Naples.  During that time he ferried thousands of people to and from the beach along an elevated boardwalk that passes through a pristine and controversial estuary eco-system that contains thousands of endangered red, black and white mangrove trees.  In addition to the readily apparent flora, there is a lot of not so readily apparent fauna and there-in lie these tales which make for interesting and funny reading.

The true stories feature a panther in the park during spring break; kidnapped gopher tortoises; bats falling from the passenger terminal ceiling at the tram stop; snakes in the trees and on the planks; a boy who tried to kidnap an alligator; a lady who got hit in the bead by a fish that fell from the sky; a four foot long black-tipped shark awaiting beach-goers at the arrival deck and a monkey in the mangroves.  Along the way you’ll pick up a few facts about the local area that you’ll likely find of interest.

Before embarking on this senior career as a Clam Pass Park tram driver, Bernie Rath served as Executive Director of both the Canadian and American booksellers’ associations from 1979 to 1997 in Toronto and New York respectively.  He has lived in Naples since 2004.  This is his second local non-fiction book.  Margit Heiss has lived in Naples for 14 years and her stunning abstract nature paintings can be viewed at the Gallery on Fifth in the Mercato.

Win at Michigan’s Court of Appeals in Favor of The Liblang Law Firm, P.C. is a Victory for Consumers

In the recent ruling, Kennedy v Robert Lee Auto Sales, the Michigan Court of Appeals protected the interests of consumers by ensuring that reasonable attorney fees are covered by wrong-doers even in cases with low monetary value.

Birmingham, MI – A now published Court of Appeals decision makes it clear that consumers need the protection of reasonable attorney fees. This ruling ensures that individuals seeking compensation as victims of fraudulent business practices will have their attorney fees covered. Without proper compensation many attorneys turn away from smaller cases, potentially leaving some individuals without any representation at all.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the Michigan Consumer Protection Act both protect Michigan consumers who have been cheated by used car dealers. As part of those protections, the statutes allow for courts to award reasonable attorney fees as part of consumers’ damages.

In a recent auto fraud case represented by The Liblang Law Firm, P.C. the judge awarded $1,000.00 including costs. This left consumer protection attorney Dani K. Liblang only $324.46 in compensation for several months of work.  Liblang filed an appeal citing unfair payment and the Michigan Court of Appeals agreed.

In Kennedy v Robert Lee Auto Sales, the court ruled that consumer protection attorneys are entitled to reasonable attorney fees for their work. In deciding what is reasonable, the court applied a Michigan Supreme Court case Smith v. Khouri, requiring the court to begin its analysis by determining the fee customarily charged in the locality for similar legal services, multiplied by the number of hours expended in the case. The court also ruled that the lower court must consider the remedial purpose of the fee-shifting statutes, which is to provide a “reasonable return” so as to attract competent attorneys to handle ordinary consumer claims, even when the monetary value is low. The court also noted that:

 

“…as is the case with most fee-shifting statutes, there is a punitive nature to the award of attorney fees under the MCPA and MMWA. Indeed, although the statutes are designed to protect consumers, the award of attorney fees acts, in some ways, as a penalty against those who have violated the respective acts.”

This ruling protects the interests of consumers,” states Attorney Liblang. “Without reasonable attorney fee awards, it would be economically impossible for consumer protection lawyers to represent their 
clients.”
