SPOKANE, WASHINGTON – 30 Mar, 2017 – The McGinnity Room, Spokane’s new wedding and special events venue, has officially opened on the first floor of the historic Cold Storage Building at 116 W. Pacific Avenue.   The new venue is a labor of love for three area Spokane women — Kim Culberson, Melissa Sadler and Robyn McGinnity — who are opening the business as a tribute to Robyn’s late husband Daniel T. McGinnity.  McGinnity tragically lost his life last year in a water skiing accident.   He was a partner at Wolfe SBMC — a patent and technology law firm – which moved into the top two floors of the Cold Storage building last summer.  

At approximately 7300 square feet, The McGinnity Room comfortably seats comfortably accommodates up to 225 guests for a formal dinner or up to 350 for more casual affairs.  It features original timber posts dating from 1911, turn of the century bricks which warm the look and feel of the room, and massive picture windows which open onto a private patio area.  The McGinnity Room includes a full bar and large kitchen for catering, and offers everything from room rental to complete event planning services.  

Built in 1911, the Cold Storage Building went through a massive renovation in 2016 when it was purchased by several partners at the Wolfe SBMC law firm.  Now, the first floor has been turned into The McGinnity Room – a stylish, high ceiling venue for wedding receptions, celebrations business functions and other special events.  

Culberson joins The McGinnity Room team following nearly 20 years of hospitality and events experience at Spokane’s Satellite Diner.  Sadler previously practiced law, her focus primarily in the areas of business and family law.  McGinnity is a lawyer as well; her current focus is on estate planning and business law. She previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in Oregon.

“Dan was a man of humor, compassion and integrity,” Robyn said.  “Almost everyone involved in The McGinnity Room knew and loved him. His friend, Jeff Miller, helped keep the project on time and had his company install the drywall.  His coworkers and friends supported the project from its inception — my brother, Jamie Breen, who was a close friend and fellow partner at the law firm; his partners and coworkers, friends and many family members have all played a role in making this happen.   It’s one of the ways that we are keeping Dan present in our life.”

Local photographer Jennifer DeBarros, who has already done several photo shoots in The McGinnity Room, describes it as “a gorgeous and versatile venue with its exposed brick, industrial elements and delicate touches. I already look forward to more opportunities to photograph in this space.”

Ryan Gray of Cowboy Construction is the general contractor for The McGinnity Room renovation.   Gray recently retired from the rodeo circuit, where he was considered one of the most accomplished bareback riders in the world.  “Not only is he a fabulous builder, but he’s also one of the nicest most humble people walking this planet,” Sadler said.  “We are honored to work with him and his crew.”
