Saving Kenya From The Jaws Of Corruption

We are faced with the urgency of today.
All is possible if we speak and act in love like brothers.

Kenya is a great country, adorned with many uncountable gifts, talents and blessings from God and bestowed to its wonderful people who speak diverse languages and who are all united in love as one community of Kenyan.

But to many, time has stood still, having lost hope for a better future and having no meaning for life ahead due to various social injustices plaguing our country. Parliament manifests the diversity of the nation, represents the will of the people and exercises their sovereignty. It has the obligation and mandate to protect its people and to uphold the constitution. It has at all times, by words promised to do so but has failed to keep its promises. Our national &local assemblies, and all arms of our government have for sure let the people they represent down. They have become broken institutions punishing the poor while rewarding the rich law breakers. They have become assemblies of corruption and vices. Many bills are aimed at serving and protecting our leaders and illegally sucking as much as possible from the poor tax payers. They have neglected their duties. They are feeding and fattening some few chosen while those who get milked are neglected to the point of not able to feed their young ones. They are blackmailing institutions and efforts to fight corruption and other vices, and worse, they are corruption themselves; they breath, eat, drink, sleep, shower and drive corruption. That is their day to day dreams and endeavors. No integrity, honesty, accountability. They make laws and set their penalties but when they are caught by those laws, they remind us they are above them since, and I quote, “SISI NDIO TUNATENGENEZA SHERIA NA TUNA UHURU WA KUZIVUNJA.’’ For the laws they make to have meaning, they should hold themselves to the highest standard of conduct and be good role models.

Though we are crying and begging for a change from our leaders, there is no strong and genuine, political, legal, moral, spiritual and brotherly will to fight the vices. It is grabbing and pushing for self. None is caring for the other and worse, those who are trusted with our lives. All what they do when we cry is carry out endless and costly investigations that leads to nowhere and end up wasting more money than being investigated. All turns into cold cases and the cycle of theft starts again.

One of the greatest casualties of war is the great and innocent society, shot down on the battlefield of corruption, tribalism, graft, nepotism, patronage, bribery, unemployment. Yes, we have been fighting in this battlefield for long enough, we have cried, mourned, begged, demanded, demonstrated, written articles seen tough — no nonsense talks which works and lasts as long as the live speech. As casualties, we say enough is enough and we are ready to take the bulls by their horns however sharp they are. We are longing, yearning and yawning for this change and it has to come from us. Nobody is going to sweep and clean our house. Nobody is going to replace that leaking roof, nobody is going to repair that broken door. It’s our responsibility to come together, repair our house starting with the foundation and make it stand firm, strong and great again.

Distinguished, powerful and well respected world leaders will come, lecture and dictate for change but they can do so much to help. We are the only ones who hold the keys and can unlock the change we want. We are the ones who can only arm our morals, our minds, hearts and fight this war. Morals cannot be imported.

Lets then empower ourselves with the weapon of love, peace and unity and set laws that will take care of all social injustices plaguing our nation/government. Laws that will bar all those involved in corruption from seeking public offices, laws that will take care of their salaries (have the second highest paid lawmakers in the world and the number one unproductive in the world), laws that will hold and deal with corruption as corruption and not as normal life behavior, laws that will hold all accountable of their actions regardless of their political or social affiliation. Laws that will protect and value all people regardless of their political, religion and or region affiliation, laws that will take care of public money and properties and laws that will protect and put the interests and welfare of our nation ahead of interests of any individual.

It’s our house and our office. We are the employer and we should take the employers’ mantle seriously and put our house and office in order. Time is now to take decisive action before we employ them and shape our future.

Wisconsin Man wages war on invasive feral cats, animal rights mob cyber bully in retaliation.

WILD ROSE, WISCONSIN – 14 Feb, 2017 – My name is Sam Wood I am a strong advocate for conservation and the outdoor lifestyle. I run a web page and Facebook page called Sam Wood Outdoors on this page I share my adventures and I also try and teach and pass on my addiction for the outdoors and conservation. One subject I am very passionate about is invasive species and the damage they do.

A post came up in my news feed a while about feral cats and the damage they are doing to our native birds and wildlife. I was so moved by the facts I began a two pronged approach to the problem, one I humanly kill any feral cats that come into my traps, two I try to educate my followers and the general public about the damage these invasive animals do.As part of my public education efforts I posted feral cat facts on my Facebook page and it got picked up by the carpbusters Facebook page.It resulted in a firestorm of insults, vulgarity and abuse by animal rights advocates.

They have called the police and Mayor of my small town and asked that I be arrested even though the killing of feral cats is not illegal, they have sent dozens of complaints to Facebook and eventually got my page shut down for 24 hours. It wont stop me from following my passions but I dont understand how a person can claim to love animals and treat people so badly.

Anyway there’s a lot to this story and I would like to get my side out as I fight the good fight against invasive species to protect our native wildlife.

New FAFSA Means New Confused Parents

CLEVELAND, OHIO – 14 Feb, 2017 – The Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA is a financial aid form containing over 100 questions that dives deep into a student and their family’s financial information. Students must file this form in order to be considered for federal student aid. Federal student aid includes Federal Pell Grants, federal student loans, and work-study opportunities.

In addition to determining eligibility for federal student aid, many states, private organizations, colleges, and career schools rely on information from the FAFSA to determine eligibility for nonfederal sources of aid. Up until this year, families would have access to this lengthy form on January 1st. They would then fill it out with estimates and then update later based on their most recent taxes. However, this year was different, allowing families to begin submitting on October 1st. President Obama announced these significant changes to the FAFSA in September 2015.

The changes were put into place to make the process easier and more helpful for students in the college planning process. The first change deals with the date that the form is released. With the previous FAFSA students had to wait until January 1 for the release of the form. This new change called for an earlier submission date, allowing students to file a 2017-2018 FAFSA as early as October 1, which will be a permanent change. October 1st is not the final date to submit, this is the first day in which the FAFSA will become available to the public. Starting this year the FAFSA will now use the “prior-prior” tax year information. For example, if you are applying for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year, you can use your 2015 tax information to complete the FAFSA. This change is eliminating the lag time in between filing a preliminary FAFSA and then updating once your taxes are done. This change was said to be put into place to simplify the process, eliminating the need to use income estimates.

This new wave of changes is creating confusion among families, students and universities alike. To help with this new FAFSA and all the other confusion that comes with college admissions and financial aid, College Planning Network Director, Adam H. Blumenthal has created a YouTube web series titled: 2 College Planning Tips in 2 Minutes. This channel hosts a plethora of shorts videos that range from what to do over spring break as a junior, searching for scholarships and tips for the new FAFSA changes. All of these videos can be seen on Adam’s website www.college2in2.com. “The new FAFSA came unexpectedly and several universities don’t even know of the change,” says Adam, “this channel is here to provide free, short and helpful tips to families and students on the go.”

Every Monday morning Adam releases a new video based on the time of year and what to do in regards to college admissions and financial aid. “I’ve made it my mission to keep college bound students and their parents in the loop of all of the changes throughout this already daunting process,” states Blumenthal, “we like to call this year’the year of change’ because the SAT has now changed and now there are several changes made to the FAFSA and we’re making it our goal to make sure all students are aware of this to get the most financial aid they possibly can.”

Standing Measurably Taller: 14-Year-Old St. Cloud Orthopedics Scoliosis Patient is First Ever to be Treated Locally

St. Cloud Orthopedics Accomplishes Area’s First Adolescent Scoliosis Surgery

ST. CLOUD, MN – 14 Feb, 2017 – Last year at this time, Makayla Keehr was 4’ 11”. Now she’s 1.5 inches taller, and her Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) has been corrected, thanks to the surgical spine care from Dr. Trevor McIver of St. Cloud Orthopedics. This is the first recorded treatment of AIS ever performed in St. Cloud.

The patient’s mother, Jodi Keehr of St. Joseph, began her careful quest for Makayla’s treatment options in the Twin Cities with some of the state’s best-known spine doctors. But after her initial interactions with them, she wasn’t happy with the level of care they were receiving in exchange for the time spent away from school and work. Fed up, Jodi decided to think locally and ask St. Cloud Orthopedics for a spine referral.

“I was delighted to hear that St. Cloud Orthopedics actually had three spine doctors right here in town,” recalled Jodi. “They gave me the name of Dr. McIver, and when we met with him, I just knew we had found the right fit. He answered all of our questions and walked us through the surgical procedure that we already knew was necessary. We just felt more comfortable with him, compared to who we had met with in the Cities.”

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis is a genetic condition where the spine presents a noticeable curve measuring above 10 degrees between the ages of 11 and 18. Since Makayla’s curve was quite advanced at 55 degrees, her condition required surgical correction.

Dr. McIver, who completed his fellowship at the Spine Institute of Arizona and his residency at Oregon Health and Science University prior to joining St. Cloud Orthopedics in the fall of 2015, had successfully performed a number of similar AIS surgeries during his training. And his team of anesthesiologists also had previous experience during their respective training. Together, they were easily able to take on Makayla’s case, successfully treating her at St. Cloud Hospital with what he describes as a perfect outcome.

“Just as expected, Makayla did fantastic. She was back in school within a matter of weeks of the procedure, was out of the hospital in just four days, and was off of pain medication on day five,” reported McIver. “This is a great example of why there is no reason to leave town for advanced spine care—we were willing and able to treat Makayla’s case right here in St. Cloud.”

As for Makayla herself, she is just as happy. “My spine [curve] was getting worse, so it’s nice to know now that it’s been straightened, and it turned out even better than I anticipated,” she said. “I liked that my surgery was in St. Cloud because my parents could come and go easily, and my friends and family were able to visit me in the hospital. I wouldn’t have done anything differently.”

In adolescence, the benefits of treating idiopathic scoliosis fall under the cosmetic category. Patients typically spend a few days in the hospital in exchange for a straightened spine, which with today’s treatment is fairly steadfast. But left untreated in later life, curves can continue to advance at a steady rate, and may begin causing complications with cardiac status, breathing abilities, and more. In younger patients, the recovery process for this type of fusion-focused surgery is typically much faster.  

In cases of AIS measuring under 45 degrees, patients would first be treated with nonsurgical care, such as braces and therapy. “At St. Cloud Orthopedics, we take people down the conservative road as long as possible until they absolutely need surgery. Only then do we make that recommendation,” noted McIver. 

Makayla’s surgical results took her from a 55-degree curve to an 8-degree curve. “My back doesn’t hurt anymore,” she said. “I felt so comfortable with everyone at St. Cloud Orthopedics, and my mom was thankful for the relationship Dr. McIver built with us—it was a great experience.”

Georgia Kate Haege delivers as the prototype New York stunner of the 1970’s so convincingly it feels like a reality scene from a documentary made in that era. The film also features Skye Strake, a model who has graced Vogue magazine, and the talented actresses Charlotte Volage and Naomi Warner.

The Expediter submerges its audience into the gritty world of the tough-minded manufacturing personnel of the day.  Set in a time when the United States was falling behind as the International leader in industrial production, the film relays an underpinning of desperation that many can relate to today.  In the film, outsourcing, globalization and downsizing were starting to undermine a country accustomed to being at the top of the world’s economy.  In this way, while the movie takes place in the mid-70’s, it comes across as relatable and contemporary.  The issues of bringing jobs and manufacturing back into the U.S. is a political hot topic today.  The decision to direct money and jobs abroad impacts the way U.S. workers live their lives – then and now. 

The film also introduces us to characters such as Vipin. “The Viper “and Rosie in Quality Control who symbolize the emergence of multiculturalism in the workplace as they struggle to move up in the highly competitive workplace. The poignant scenes, expertly directed by Michael Domino, explore the emotional dynamic between workers and manufacturing in this unforgettable coming-of age story.
