Angelica Noyola Completes 25 Years of Food Service by Reopening Snapper Jack’s Catering

In 2007, Angelica Noyola was on top of the world. She was a general manager for one of Houston’s leading iconic Ninfa’s Restaurants.

Her business acumen and available investment capital were the perfect combination to be recruited away to start her dream, a seafood restaurant and catering service she called Snapper Jack’s.

Noyola’s story had all the elements of another rags to riches immigrant story. That eventful day in 1991, she applied on pre-opening at Ninfa’s Restaurant in The Woodlands.

She was excited just to have a job, and it mattered not that her position was washing glasses in the back bar.

Noyola’s work ethic, dedication and willingness to go the extra mile quickly became noticeable to management and she quickly rose through the ranks of the restaurant’s hierarchy.

The retail restaurant business is a competitive, demanding and grueling field, where chaos is managed behind the scenes every day to create a new customer and retain a repeat patron.

In this mix of clientele, employees, equipment, and food preparation, Noyola lost herself in the Zen of the pursuit of superb Tex-Mex cuisine and customer service.

After mastering the restaurant management side, her employer raised the stakes to handle the catering mix of the business simultaneously.

This process is the equivalent of the Olympics of food service due to the compounded risks of things going wrong when a complex operation goes mobile and you have hundreds of customers.

Of course, Noyola used her people skills in conjunction with her obsession for excellence and she always had backup plans when things didn’t turn out as scheduled to pull this challenge off.

With the passage of time, she became an artist at her craft. Week after week corporate and institutional clients requested her product and service. Her business volume and unsolicited accolades were her curriculum that got the attention for her partners, a married couple, who in their own right, were equally successful restaurant owners.

When Noyola accepted the offer to transition and launch her business, there was nothing Ninfa’s management could do to change her mind.

This departure was no longer about income, but about owning her operation and building a legacy for her future generations like Ninfa Rodriguez had done for her family.

So with two loyal employees, a 10-year-old commercial kitchen, and investment capital her rags to riches saga would be washed and rinsed to repeat all over.

The selected business location was in Jersey Village on Highway 290, as this was the only site available on short notice, to service the catering customer base that chose to stay with Noyola.

Through hard work and a commitment to do whatever it takes, the business quickly sped past the start-up phase in a relative short time and into an established company with revenues of over a million dollars a year and an extensive staff.

Once again Noyola was on top of the world and at the top of her game. Things, however, began to take a turn with the expansion of the highway disrupting the traffic flow.

The construction drastically affected the retail side of the restaurant and to make matters worse, Noyola’s married partners decided to divorce and divide the restaurant’s assets.

Noyola’s fairy tale was quickly unraveling into a nightmare, and after a year of negotiations, her partners decided in the winter of 2015 to liquidate the property.

If things couldn’t get any worse, in the processes of shutting down, Noyola discovered that she had no legal ownership in the business. She was just a key employee.

She trusted the verbal agreement of a shared partnership, but she never received a recorded legal claim.

Then came the final blow, Noyola was involved in a severe auto accident that made her bedridden for several months.

As she was going through this, she prayed that this nightmare end so she could wake up. However, with the passage of time reality set in and she plunged into a deep depression.

It was in those dark days that her character coalesced and her destiny defined. An inner voice told her she could do it again and encouraged her to keep going.

She could never go work for anyone after tasting entrepreneurial success, even if was all in her mind. She had obtained a degree and graduated with honors from the school of hard knocks.

She pulled herself out of bed and with mostly grit, she started all over again. In litigating her rights, a judge awarded her the restaurant name as sweat equity for her years of sacrifice.

That name embodied her personal brand and essentially a dream yet to be realized.

In 2016 with a small loan, she rented a tiny restaurant with a small kitchen to rise from the ashes.

She and her husband Fernando quickly cleaned up, painted, and decorated the micro-restaurant to welcome her faithful followers.

Through this process, the adrenalin and excitement lessened the pain she was still feeling from the accident.

The neck brace she wore was a daily reminder to keep her head up and keep going.

That was the easy part but now came the Herculean task of bidding on large catering contracts to large corporate accounts and agencies to win them back after they had moved on.

Overcoming adversity, always learning and a burning passion for never giving up is what now drives Noyola to rebuild her business and leave a legacy behind.

Her inspiration comes from her immediate and extended family. When asked what Mama Ninfa, (as she was affectionately known) would say to her if she was alive? Noyola responded with a conviction of inspiration, “DON’T GIVE UP MIJA.”

Over Half a Billion Personal Information Records Stolen or Lost Annually

Not more than a month goes by before another major data hacking scandal is thrust into the public domain. A recent report from Symantec revealed that, last year, the number of reported data breaches increased by 23%. Sector by sector, the largest penetration of breaches occurred in health services.

Meanwhile UK businesses seem worryingly unprepared to protect the personal data of their customers.

Both in the UK and across the globe very few companies are addressing the major issue of organisational insiders – “Insider Threats”- taking advantage of access to sensitive data.

A survey conducted by cyber security specialists Imperva showed that 36 percent of companies had experienced security incidents involving malicious employees in the past 12 months.

The Insider Threat problem is widespread, too; thousands of businesses in retail, health, insurance, travel and education have all becoming victims in the last 12 months alone. The Cyber Claims Study by NetDiligence reported that insider involvement accounted for 32 percent of the claims.

The recent data breach at Three Mobile is a prime example of a credential-based attack through the Insider Threat route. Hackers accessed Three’s customer upgrade database using an employee login to fraudulently acquire mobile handsets.

With impending changes to data protection regulation coming into force from 2018, in the event of a breach the EU General Data Protection Regulation means that UK companies like Tesco Bank, which recently suffered an estimated £2.5 million loss through hacking of their customers’ bank accounts, could face fines of up to €20 million, or 4% of their global turnover.

Tesco Bank had a turnover of £955m in the year to the end of September 2016, but Tesco PLC, the bank’s parent company, filed a turnover of £48.4bn. That could subject the company to a fine of as much as £1.94bn had the new EU regulation been active today.

It’s clear then that the prevention of data breaches should be a primary concern for organisations, with Insider Threats a serious risk that companies need to be equipped to protect against.

But Insider Threat is not new. According to its CEO Noel Biderman, a disgruntled ex-contractor was responsible for the well-documented Ashley Madison data breach in 2015 where 37 million of its members’ personal details and sexual fantasies were stolen and published online.

In an article published in the International Business Times, John McAfee, former founder of the McAfee antivirus company proclaimed, “Ashley Madison was not hacked… [it was] an inside job”.

Symantec estimates that over half a billion personal information records are stolen or lost each year. The total reported identities exposed were reckoned to be 429 million in 2015, representing an increase of 23% on 2014.

Customer data, employee information, intellectual property and financial information are amongst the main targets for deliberate data theft, with most thefts being carried out using a range of file formats – Word documents, spreadsheets, images and PDFs – to extract the sensitive data.

Organisations need to increase their focus on data security and data loss prevention (DLP).

To implement a DLP strategy, organisations need first to identify their most important data and classify it according to its sensitivity. Data classification is widely regarded by data security experts as the foundation for a solid DLP strategy, providing protection against both insider and external threats.

This data-centric approach sets controls for not only who can access the data, but when, why and to what level, as well as providing a foundation for employee education and a culture shift towards better data management and improved protection of sensitive data.

The world largest fragrance Exhibition “XIUJUEXI” kicks off in Shanghai

On October 21 2016, Chinese company XIUJUEXI held the world largest Fragrance Exhibition in Shanghai. The purpose of the Exhibition is let the people appreciate the perfume culture without pressure to purchase. At the same time, they build a bridge between China perfume market and Niche perfume brand.

The exhibition held in Shanghai City, Hongkou District Duolun Museum of Contemporary Art. Duolun Road a famous cultural celebrities street in Shanghai, this is their second cooperation with the museum.

The Museum has three floor, there are 1000 bottles of perfume on the first floor, mostly for the mass market brand.

Then they placed 500 bottles of niche brand on the second floor, and takes 200 bottles of their own brand agency on the third floor, as well as guests of the booth and lectures.

Según la Policía Federal estimó que el botín ilícito tiene un valor de MN $ 10.000.000 ($ 500K) y dicho un análisis de la supuesta whisky reveló que era falso.

La policía examinó unos negocios del licor separados Promotora Especializada de Tequilas SV de CV y  Compañía Tequilera de Arandas SA de CV de  propiedad de Nicolás Martínez Lara, los cuales tenían botellas de whisky y de Tequila con etiquetas que carecían de un número de serie de fabricación.

La proliferación de licores falsificados es un problema conocido para los fabricantes de bebidas alcohólicas, pero la noticia de la Policía Federal de México señaló como un problema importante para los mejores productores de whisky y de tequila del mundo.

La policía mexicana dijo que varias personas habían sido encontradas en las dos plantas de Martínez donde se están produciendo las botellas falsas. La policía también dijo que encontró “documentación interesante” después de las búsquedas de ambas plantas, y que la investigación en las botellas falsificadas continuaba, reducción a cero en el origen del whisky y otros materiales de embalaje, que fueron descubiertas para producir TEQUILA FALSO también.

Finalmente, el portal indicó que Williamson 18 ® y marcas de whisky de Paddington ® son marcas registradas y listadas por el IMPI (Instituto Mexicano de la Propriedad Industrial) como Marca Registrada, que es el equivalente de una marca registrada en los EE.UU.

Nicolas Martinez Lara fue condenado por evasión de impuestos hace pocos años y los servicios tributarios del SAT lo están persiguiendo de nuevo por supuesto falsificación de marbetes y precintos.

The team has already completed the prototyping and tooling stages of this project, and now they have turned to the Kickstarter community for help funding the manufacturing of the Futur Wallet. Less than a week after launching, Futur has already raised $9,244 of their $8,000 funding goal.

On a recent episode of Business Innovators Radio with Mark Imperial, Andrea Carlomusto, Certified Personal Trainer, discussed how to discover and achieve true fitness potential.

According to Carlomusto, many folks don’t know their potential. They start with one goal and they end up surprising themselves.

Carlomusto, said “The type of people that I serve, they normally don’t know their potential. They come in and they want to lose weight, like with any trainer, or they want to gain muscle or they want to get back to good before surgery or whatever ailed them. Then we kind of take it to the next level”.

When host Mark Imperial asked “are there a certain type [of client] that really gravitates towards you?” Carlomusto answered, “The young bodybuilders, the young guys in their twenties, they tend to come to me for the bodybuilding. I don’t know if it’s because I’m kind of like a mom or if they just want to try out a girl trainer to see if I have anything different to offer. A lot of the times, I kind of scare off the older demographic until they get to know me because I am very aggressive and very direct. Once they get to me, we go through [a conversation] and if we are a good match, usually they are lifers, which are good”.

During the Interview Carlomusto shared that her methods are a little strange, explaining, “You go through school and you know the physiology and I tend to test everything. I test everything out on myself first. I think I’m the toughest case. If I don’t think something is working or someone plateaus, that’s when you get a little creative. Like I said, I started off just rehabbing myself. I came up with a way to build up without injury…You know, I was pretty fragile back then. It’s a slow process in the beginning, and then it hits. I kind of tend to get people ready for their heavier loads and their heavy workouts. Then that’s when the fun starts”.

The interview concluded with Carlomusto saying “Keep it simple and trust your body. Your body is naturally going to do what it needs to do. Don’t fight it. Work with your strengths while you are working on your weaknesses to bring them up. Definitely trust yourself. Don’t let anybody tell you what you are doing is wrong if you are not hurting yourself. Everybody is made differently. You have to train the way your body specified. That’s probably the biggest piece of advice I’d give to anybody in the gym. ”.
