That is why The ChariTree Foundation has made its mission to take the fight forward and do something about it.

Andrea Koehle Jones could not sit back and wait for government leaders to come together and tackle one of the most important issues the universe has ever come across. She set up The ChariTree Foundation to make a difference and help children and the world.

The popular 5K Race/Walk is the original Dia de los Muertos race in the U.S. and the only 5K race that runs through Pilsen in Chicago. This race coincides with the Day of the Dead, a Mexican tradition rooted in Mesoamerican culture. For centuries, this holiday—based on All Souls’ Day—honored the deceased by allowing their living loved ones to create altars and set up “ofrendas”.

“Many people identify with the Day of the Dead holiday in their own way,” says United Neighborhood Organization’s Interim Executive Director, Solskin Gomez-Krogh. “In its 10th year, UNO continues to bring this ritual of personal importance to the Chicago community as an outlet to celebrate their loved ones.” 

The 5K race kicks off at 8 a.m. at Addams/Medill Park, 1301 W. 14th St. in Chicago. The 3.1-mile course takes participants of all ages through the colorful streets of Pilsen, Chicago’s most culturally rich and vibrant neighborhood. Runners will be cheered on by local mariachis, folkloric dance groups, DJs spinning high-energy music along with spirited spectators and volunteers.

Afterward, a post-race awards party is scheduled back at Addams/Medill Park. Participants and the public can enjoy live entertainment on stage, try authentic food and beverages and buy from artisans and merchants. A family-friendly area with Dia de los Muertos activities will be part of the festivities.  

In the 5K, a hand-decorated, one-of-a-kind collectible “calavera” (skull) awaits the top three male and female overall finishers in their respective age categories. Also, a special 10th-anniversary commemorative medal will be given to timed runners completing the race.

MADISON, WI – 10 Oct, 2016 – Donald Trump has delivered a personally signed letter to CatholicVote.org stating: “Religious freedom is our First Freedom, and it must be respected.”

Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote.org, said: “We’ve made no secret of our concerns about Donald Trump during the primaries. But we have to give credit where it’s due. Donald Trump has selected a fantastic vice presidential candidate in Mike Pence. Then he committed to nominating justices to the Supreme Court from a list of eminently qualified judges. And on the life issue, Trump promised to sign a ban on abortions after 20 weeks.”

But his letter today touches on perhaps the most pressing issue for the Catholic Church in America — religious liberty, Burch said.

“President Obama has forced Catholics to pay for things that violate our deeply held beliefs. The ACLU has sued Catholic hospitals in an attempt to force them to perform abortions. And Hillary Clinton has said that ‘religious beliefs … have to be changed.’ Given the grave threats to religious liberty, we are grateful that Donald Trump has now pledged his support for the First Amendment right to religious freedom, which protects all people of faith,” said Burch.

“There will still be some Catholic voters skeptical of Donald Trump’s pledges. But I would rather spend 2017 holding Donald Trump to his promises than having to fight Hillary Clinton at every turn,” said Burch.

In his letter to CatholicVote.org, Trump pledged to sign the First Amendment Defense Act or the Conscience Protection Act should it reach his desk.

“Our current president has not respected American’s First Amendment rights. Many believe he has declared a war on Catholics. And my opponent promises to be even worse!” wrote Trump.

He continued: “As President, I promise that I will protect the rights of Catholics to live their faith, to serve their communities, and to act on their beliefs without fear. This approach one would think is just common sense. And I don’t care if people call it politically incorrect.”
