Missouri contractor helps hearing-impaired couple with roof funding

When an old hearing-impaired couple was denied by the insurance company of coverage for leaking roof, local property restoration company Professional Restoration stepped in to help with roof funding.

Glendale, MO – October 3, 2016 – No matter how self-centered our world has turned into, there still seems to be some generous souls who do not think twice when it comes to extending help for others. One such kindred spirit is local contractor Professional Restoration which has actively stepped in to restore the house of an old hearing-impaired couple Charles & Jennie. Unfortunately, Charles was denied by insurance company as he was unable to pay the high premiums that further worsened their leaking roof and consequently their entire home.

A leading name in MO restoration sector, Professional Restoration has teamed up with the local vendors and a manufacturer to take care of the leaking roof of the old couple. While the restoration company has donated the labor-support for roof installation, roofing company Certain Teed Roofing donated the roofing material. The roof was restored on September 29, Thursday.

It was the Professional Restoration manager Gwen Maechling who first met Charles & Jennie last winter and came to know about their unfortunate state. As she brought it to the notice of her boss Myriah Boettler and her team at office, together they decided to do the needful for the couple.

I met Jennie & Charles in 2015 February while installing roof in their locality. Both of them are hearing-impaired but I was more heart-broken to discover how badly their home needs repair, major repair I mean. They were struggling with a leaking roof, their gutters were not properly shedding water away from their home and they were in a dire need of a good siding to keep the property water-tight. A new set of windows were required as well. As I mentioned everything to my boss and my team, we immediately decided to step in to ensure a better life for Charles & Jennie”, explained Gwen while speaking on her first encounter with Charles & Jennie.

Charles & Jennie’s home is one of the oldies in the block, dating back to 1949. Insurance premiums are always higher for older homes since these properties are tagged ‘highly risky’ for loss, which meant further burden on Charles and Jennie. Charles wasn’t able to pay his premium, leading to a lapse in coverage. The insurance company said the date of loss fell within that lapse of coverage and hence it got really unaffordable for the couple to maintain their beloved home.

However, the old couple are somewhat relieved now as Professional Restoration has helped them with the roofing while they have also received private donations for vinyl siding & gutter guards. But the roof leaks have damaged the property internally and its wooden windows are rotten simply beyond repair. They would immediately need a new set of windows and with that in mind Gwen has launched a crowdfunding campaign at Go Fund Me to seek support for Charles & Jennie’s home.

“There are still many more remodeling works to do to get the home back to its normal functional state. It would mean a robust financial backup and collaborative approach from us all, thus this crowdfunding campaign. Your generous support would be much appreciated. Volunteer first responders often work other jobs, which may take them out of range for their pagers or into areas (e.g. such as a business meeting or warehouse) where they have the pager turned off, or worse, completely forget their pager.  In many rural areas, pagers can fail because of terrain or distance.  Of course, missed pages mean “no response”! 

Cellular networks have better coverage and a longer range than pagers. But when departments use PageQ, they always get the page. Now using PageQ as a relay tool, responders can still be in virtually any location and receive vital emergency page information that they would have missed entirely.

PageQ’s advanced features enable either audio messages or text-based messages to be relayed.  First responders can choose to receive the page via any or all of the three communication methods: Phone Call, Text Message, or Email. They can even direct the phone call to a land line and the text messages to a cell phone. If the message is received by PageQ in a text format, PageQ uses a high-quality text-to-speech-voice program to read the message directly to the first responder over the phone.

San Miguel Has Set the Table for Its Biggest Food Festival Ever

The San Miguel de Allende Food Festival (SMAFF) is this celebrated colonial town’s biggest annual festival, as well as one of the most anticipated and exciting culinary events in Mexico. And the 2016 edition, July 15-17, will be the biggest festival yet with some 50 national and international chefs, performances by five musical groups, more than 100 exhibitors including hotels, restaurants, caterers, artisans, local food producers and wineries, and more than 30 food writers and other media. About 2,000 food lovers from Mexico and around the world will converge on San Miguel to enjoy tasting menus, wine tastings, entertainment, product exhibits, and the festival’s main event, the ‘Chefs Table.’

Festival Timetable:

The festival will run from 2:00 to 10:00 pm on Friday, July 14;  from 12:00 to 10:00 pm on Saturday, and from 11:00 am to 07:00 pm on Sunday. Each day will feature a variety of events and activities including:

Tasting Table: For the first time, SMAFF will have a special Tasting Table offering fine wines, mescals and beers along with cooking demonstrations and culinary exhibitions.

Chef’s Table: Festival-goers will be able to sample a wide range of gourmet dishes whipped up by the Mexican and international chefs. The chefs will be divided into teams to prepare unique recipes for a series of meals, while also spending time eating and talking with the attendees. The Chef’s Table is being designed by Casa Armida, one of the most recognized design houses in the country based in San Miguel. The state of Tabasco will bring a special presentation to the Chef’s Table: “The Dinner of Eden” featuring a huge bed of smoked oysters. One of the featured teams will be four chefs from the Rosewood San Miguel. Monin, a top brand internationally for beverage mixers,  syrups and flavorings, will be serving cocktails at the Chef’s Table and Cervecería Boca Negra will be including during this event.

Among the participating chefs will be Najat Kaanache Amghiraf, one of the world’s leading female chefs. The Moroccan native trained at Ferran Adria’s renowned El Bulli in Spain and then honed her skills at prestigious Noma in Copenhagen, French Laundry in Yountville, California, Per Se in New York City and Alinea in Chicago, working alongside such culinary giants as Rene Redzepi, Thomas Keller, Grant Achatz and Martin Berasetegui.  She went on to instruct chefs worldwide on the latest culinary techniques and lecture at major universities and festivals on the science of cooking with White House Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses.

The Chef’s Table meals range between 1,200 pesos (about $63) and 2,000 pesos (about $105).

Bill Gates is Wrong, says Nuclear Engineer

CHOCTAW NATION, OK – 3 Oct, 2016 – Bill Gates has misled the public, says a stinging criticism published on the world’s largest online forum for hydrogen-for-fuel technology. 

In his TED talk, Bill Gates wishes for lower CO2 emission into the atmosphere while producing more energy for the world over the next 35 years.  He wishes for a miracle, and he focuses his talk on 5 technologies — but not hydrogen for fuel and energy.

To lower CO2 emissions in the future, Gates touts Terrapower, a nuclear technology that can burn uranium-238.  But he admits this is “kind of a crazy idea,” because no prototype reactor exists.  Bill Gates is wrong, says a nuclear engineer and professor emeritus, who cites new catalytic technology as a lower-cost method for producing hydrogen from water, at any required rate.

Gates says he has a wish.  He wants a zero-CO2-producing energy generation technology by the year 2050.  That is a good wish.  New catalytic technology exists which can split water using LOW energy and harvest hydrogen that can be used for fuel to produce HIGH energy output.  But, Gates doesn’t mention this breakthrough catalytic hydrogen technology in his TED talk.

The attack on Gates’ technology talk asks, “Is Bill Gates wrong?”  and   “Is Bill Gates unwittingly causing harm to the world regarding alternative energy development?”

After a very successful festival run that included winning a Lumiere statuette for Best use of HDR at the Advanced Imaging Society’s Creative Arts Awards at Warner Bros. Studios earlier this year in Los Angeles, Emma, a short film directed by Howard Lukk has found a home on Amazon Prime Video.

Emma was premiered at the Academy Qualifying LA Shorts Fest, then made its way to becoming official selection to Cinequest in 2016 and a dozen other festivals and took home three trophies so far.

Working from a great script, Howard was determined to capture the look of an old Victorian house to fit the screenplays description and mood. “Finding the right location was critical to the look of the film?” explained Howard. “Luckily for the LA based production company, they found the perfect location for this mystery thriller. The historic Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles. Shooting at night created the perfect ambiance for the picture and also provided the occasional unexplained incidents reported from a couple of the crew members. It is hard to tell if there were spirits around us but the film turned out great and it did make for a good story to tell afterwards.”

7 Matrix Turf Fields with Cushdrain Shock Pads Installed by Hellas Construction

AUSTIN, TX – 10/3/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — By selecting a safer turf system with a Cushdrain® shock pad, Yesleta ISD has made a long-term investment to reduce injuries and promote safety for athletes. Over the past five months, Hellas has been building and installing the 7 turf systems that will provide a better G-Max (shock absorption) and a consistent playing surface over time, including enhanced drainage and durability.

Ysleta ISD contracted Hellas for the $14.2 million project after the approval of a $430.5 million bond dedicated to bringing major changes to the school district. The entire community and over 14,000 students, athletes, marching band, and cheerleaders will utilize the multi-purpose fields.

Hellas finalized all artificial turf surface installations before the first week of the football season. “The turf is absolutely amazing. In prior years we had to cancel practice after heavy rain, sometimes for days, now the surface drains quickly and we can practice even if it’s raining,” said Jesus J. Perales, Head Football Coach for Del Valle High School. “The feel of the turf is excellent. It has a certain bounce to it. Your body feels better after being on it a few hours as opposed to natural grass,” said Perales.

The athletes and coaches have embraced the new Matrix Turf 100%. “It has changed the dynamics of our practices and team structure for the best – it has completely changed the look of our stadium and I get compliments on the design all the time,” said Ysleta High School’s Head Football Coach, Joe Martinez. “Hellas representatives have been ready to serve us at any moment’s notice in order to better the experience of our kids during this transition,” said Martinez.

The second phase of the project includes the installation of outfield fencing, backstop walls, and netting at all the baseball and softball fields, as well as new batting cages, electrical services, scoreboards, and stadium lighting. Additionally, Hellas will also be installing new lighting systems to every tennis court facility. The project is to be finalized before the end of the year.

“We’re very proud of this project,” said Jesus Moreno, Hellas Project Manager. “After wrapping up phase one, we’re excited to keep the momentum moving forward with our work for the school district. It has definitely been a great experience working with Ysleta ISD,” said Perales.
