Adopt A Cop USA was born to help save lives. Not just the lives of law enforcement officers, but every life that is endangered by the negative perception that people have of those officers which has permeated this country.

“The life we’re saving could be anybody,” said retired Sgt. Frank Danysh, who spent 25 years with the Boynton Beach Police Department. “It could be a black person, white person, cop, child, anybody. Most people aren’t trained in firearms. They shoot wildly and anyone can get hit. And, every time a riot or death happens, we all pay the cost for it. Socially, the tragedies affect us emotionally and monetarily.”

Frank created Adopt A Cop USA – Help A Child as the answer. Front line police officers paired as mentors with at risk children starting with 4th grade help these children learn that officers are the good guys, and how to make positive choices with positive consequences. By engaging these children early, perceptions are developed that deter their becoming gang members, rioters, domestic abusers and cop killers. They become solid citizens who benefit themselves, their families and the community.

The deep need for this program hit home after Frank responded to a domestic violence call in his 24th year as an officer. Having previously been mentored as a 6th grader in a then defunct program through the police department, the young black man who was causing the problem recognized Frank and called out for help. “Enough is Enough!” Frank said he thought that day. “It is time to stop officers dying, children being shot, civilians being injured. The violence needs to end.”

In 2009, Janice Henington set out for a summer of fun. In May, she went on a cruise with her daughter and sister-in-law and then in August spent time in Colorado, Wyoming & Utah, shopping and sightseeing. But there was a shadow cast over her fun as her worry increased of the irregularity she’d been experiencing in her cycle.

After a number of visits to her doctor with no resulting answers to be had, Janice was referred to a Gynecologic Oncologist. Her doctor reassured her that there was nothing to worry about, that it was the logical next step, but that appointment had much more in store for her.

Upon the completion of the routine exam, the Oncologist bluntly announced that Janice had Cervical Cancer. Six days later, Janice was checked into a hospital to have a Radical Hysterectomy. Her follow-up appointment revealed that she in fact didn’t have Cervical Cancer but Uterine Cancer that had spread to her cervix. Her official diagnosis was Stage 2, Grade 3, Endometrial Cancer.

After a one week recovery stay in the hospital, Janice was released to go home to continue her healing at home. Janice found herself reeling, trying to process the new stage of life she’d found herself in. After 6 weeks at home recovering, Janice went back to her doctor where she was informed that her treatments would include both radiation and Chemotherapy.

During Janice’s time in Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy, Janice found herself in the same boat as many other cancer patients who had come before her. She found herself losing her hair and shopping for wigs. As she gathered the accessories to care for her wigs, Janice says she became increasingly frustrated with the Styrofoam head system, with all the heads and wigs sitting out, taking up counter space and on display for the whole world to see. To top it all off, she says her weekly wig washing routine became a dripping, hazardous mess. Janice says she remembers, “thinking that others must be experiencing the same frustrations. How did they store their wigs discreetly and avoid a dripping watery mess? There must be a better way.”

It was at that point that Janice began her search for a solution; but none was to be had. She talked to multiple salon owners and other wig wearers who had some good tips and tricks for dealing with the existing care products on the market, but no one could point her in the direction of a completely different care product that avoided the pitfalls of wig stands, wig hangers and styrofoam heads all together.

The frustration of dealing first hand with sub-par products instilled in Janice a drive to develop a totally new product; a product that would completely rid the wig care routine of all the hassles attached to drying, styling and storing wigs. LAKELAND, FL – 22 Aug, 2016 – Bob Bender calls himself  “a recovering engineer,” given how relatively little he uses his formal training these days.

But he still calls on the lessons learned from his years with Eastman Kodak, when the company that helped invent digital photography fumbled the ball of the future and lost it all.

“There was an underlying disconnect … between what Kodak wanted to sell (film), what the existing channel wanted to sell (film), and what consumers really wanted to buy (the ability to take and share pictures easily),” says Bender, now chief operating officer for The Commodore Corporation, an Indiana-based company with factory-built home divisions in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

The Kodak experience taught him that change can happen very quickly (“My kids have never used a film camera in their life,”) and that companies need to adapt to serve customers’ needs if they want to grow.

“If we only hear what we want to hear, we could find ourselves in trouble,” he says.

Commodore specializes in residential-style HUD-code manufactured homes — a step up from basic “shade and shelter” models, as well as modular homes, which now make up about half of their product line.

“We believe there is a good market for people who can only afford so much,” he says, “but also a good market for people who will pay for what they want.”

And what they want are well-built, affordable homes that have as much curb appeal as the striking interiors the industry has pretty much perfected in recent years.

“Those people often buy from the ‘outside in,’ and many manufacturers are raising their game in designing better-looking exteriors,” says Bender.

The company believes in the market enough to launch a new division in Wisconsin, focusing on both HUD-code manufactured homes and state code modular homes.

“I still believe home-buying is a deeply personal process, and the retailers and builders that best help customers feel comfortable will succeed the most.”

BitScan to partner with Waves to Launch Global Loyalty Token, Incent

BitScan is partnering with custom blockchain tokens platform Waves to realise a new form of rewards programme. Incent will offer a ‘better than money’ solution for both customers and merchants.

‘Loyalty systems as they currently exist are broken. Customers receive a token that has no value beyond the issuing business – and many simply don’t bother to redeem them,’ says BitScan CEO Rob Wilson. Merchants, meanwhile, undertake a liability every time they issue a token, so the viability of these schemes relies on only a proportion of customers actually using them. ‘No one gets the benefits they could. We know we can create a better proposition for merchants and customers alike. Our research shows e-commerce is crying out for a better solution – and that’s precisely our aim with Incent.’

Business-ready UI and relationships

BitScan has already developed the proof-of-concept wallet for Incent. Merchants can configure issuance and redemption via the dashboard – sending customers a proportion of the value of each purchase in Incent, and setting the discount available for paying with Incent. The crowdfund will raise money to integrate the software into e-commerce sites and reach out to new businesses.

To date, several major companies have shown interest and three have already come on board. The goal for Incent is to create a token of steadily increasing value, driven by organic market demand – which will also benefit ICO investors. Every time a merchant rewards a customer, tokens will be bought on the open market, increasing prices.

Waves: infrastructure for Incent

The Waves platform is critical to the success of Incent, since it will provide the blockchain infrastructure for token issuance and trading. Waves’ decentralised exchange will allow individuals and businesses to trade tokens against national currencies – rather than existing solely within the walled garden of a controlling business – and allow BitScan to issue Incent tokens as required. Similarly, BitScan will bring significant commercial exposure and transaction volumes to Waves. ‘We are very pleased to be able to announce such a major partnership,’ says Waves founder Sasha Ivanov. ‘This is exactly the kind of use case we anticipated when creating the platform and we are consequently working closely with BitScan to provide technical assistance and further support in any way we can.’

Crowdfunding and early investment

BitScan aims to raise a minimum of $1 million for development and marketing, capping the crowdfund at $5 million. The ICO will take place in October, with the sale price of tokens rising over the course of the ICO as funding milestones are met.
