“One of the first lens accessories people would buy for their new lenses is an UV filter, as they were hoping an UV filter can protect their expensive lenses,” said Jinfu Chen, founder and CEO of Aurora Aperture Inc.  “However,  most UV filters and protection filters in the market today do not have any meaningful protection as they are made from normal glass that can be easily broken. Chemically toughened glass such as Gorilla® Glass has been very popular in modern smartphones and tablets due to their much stronger impact and scratch capabilities. It’s only a matter of time when they are used as protection filters for camera lenses.”

The PowerUV protector and PowerCPL filters are based on Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3. They can pass the Drop Ball Test that is mandated by the FDA regulation* for eyeglasses and sunglasses.

The drop ball test is performed by dropping a steel ball weighing 0.56 ounce from a height of 50 inches upon the surface of the test target. To pass the the test,  the test target must not fracture.

LOS ANGELES, CA – 15 July, 2016 – Rex Macadangdang, an up and coming independent singer songwriter hailing from Los Angeles, is preparing to release his debut studio endeavor. The culmination of such a powerhouse of contributing talent can only carry a song so far, however, and at the end of the day, it must stand on its own two feet as a piece of individual artistry. For Macadangdang, the creative process begins with the music. “To this day, I make music by finding a chord progression,” he explains. “Then I move onto the melody. If the melody is great, then it’s easy for lyrics to sort of fall in place.”

That songwriting process has been a staple of Macadangdang’s compositions for over a decade now. When he was a teenager in the 90s, the British band Oasis changed his life. “They reminded me of the Beatles,” he muses, looking back on his descent into musical culture. The discover of Oasis sent Macadangdang down the rabbit hole to discover classic rock – acts like Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, and more.

As a long-time resident of Los Angeles, Macadangdang has worked to overcome his fear, stage fright, at some of the city’s most notable indie venues. He’s performed at The Viper Room, State Social House, Bar 20, to name a few, and as a result, his passion and excitement for creating music has become unflinching in its dedication and resolve. Macadangdang argues that the art is spiritual, in a sense, and he derives great solace and healing from the process.

One of the fascinating aspects of Macadangdang’s life has always been his surprisingly frequent run-ins with UFO’s. Many Americans each year claim to see unidentified flying objects, but few can lay claim to the kind of experiences Macadangdang has had. In a span of three years, Macadangdang believes to have encountered six different UFO’s of varying sizes, shapes, and styles.

“The UFO experiences changed my life forever,” he details. “I don’t think they’re here to hurt us. I think they’re here to just observe and protect… like a policeman.” The events haven’t inspired any music from Macadangdang, but they do remain concreted in his essence as a person. Without these encounters, he wouldn’t be the individual or artist he is today.

Outside of his music, Macadangdang is an active scholar and creative. The songwriter holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and has recently launched a business to aid other artists in developing music videos. His faith in God is a catalyst for his work as well, and the ethereal tones of his music and lyrics elegantly reflect that.

LOS ANGELES – 18 July, 2016 – Underscoring the growing stature of Woodbury University’s Interior Architecture curriculum, seniors Dominic Luna and Carlos Ramirez have been selected as two of fifteen recipients of the prestigious Angelo Donghia Foundation Senior Student Scholarship – a first for the nationwide program.

The Angelo Donghia Foundation’s Senior Student Scholarship Program in Interior Design was launched in 2002. Through the program, the Foundation awards scholarships to deserving students who are entering their senior year in a baccalaureate degree program in Interior Design.  Students must submit either a residential or commercial project of their own design; the panel of judges consists of top interior designers in New York City.  Each student winner receives up to a $30,000 scholarship to be applied to senior year tuition, board, maintenance and books.  

Both Woodbury students chose their projects from Studio 6, taught by Associate Professor Heather Peterson.  In Peterson’s class, the design of a speculative museum of the future began with the exploration of material experiments using unconventional ingredients like wax and glycerin, in order to expand into a new palette of tactile and aesthetic experiences.  From there, both submissions were developed without reference to a specific site, growing solely out of the internal logic of the spatial experience.

While five School of Architecture students have won the scholarship since its inception, the double win is a first for the program. “Our success at this award and other awards and scholarships testifies to the ever-increasing quality of our Interior Architecture program,” said Christoph Korner, Chair of the Interior Architecture program.  “It’s a tremendous achievement for both students, and our sincerest congratulations go to Dominic and Carlos.”  Previous School of Architecture recipients include Yumin Zeng, Iva Kremsa, Jill Wood, Caroline Morris and Kristen Dusold.

“I’m very grateful to receive this scholarship award, and I couldn’t have done it without Carlos,” Luna said. “We both encouraged each other throughout the process, and I couldn’t be happier that we won this scholarship together.”

“When I first read the award letter I was proud to find out that we had not only one but two winners representing Woodbury in this year’s Donghia Scholarship competition,” Ramirez said.  “We could not have accomplished this without the help of our amazing faculty and staff, especially Kristin King, Christoph Korner, Heather Peterson and Brigid McManama.  Many thanks to them for their guidance and support.”

Woodbury University School of Architecture is a network of locations strategically sited within the Southern California megalopolis: Los Angeles, Burbank, Hollywood and San Diego. Together, these sites form a critical infrastructure for architectural investigations.
