Experts in Finance Speak to Retirement Strategies that Focus on the Long Term

Regardless of what combination of solutions a retiree chooses to meet their retirement income needs, the ability to remain adaptable to changes in spending from year to year can help maximize income and minimize the chance of running out of money.

NORCO, CA – 7 June, 2016 – There was a time when retirement was a lot less complicated. Pension programs were prevalent and there was confidence in the ability of Social Security to provide regular income. Personal savings, while necessary, played a smaller role in an overall retirement income plan. It’s now common for retirements, which once lasted around 15 years, to extend beyond 25 or 30 years, which is good news, but requires even more savings.

Today, Social Security faces an uncertain future and pensions are fast disappearing and being replaced by defined-contribution programs, which rely primarily on the individual for savings. As a result, the bulk of the burden for creating retirement income rests with the individual retiree. That means pre-retirees need to be a lot more aware of the various retirement tools out there and how they can be strategically combined to help address investment risks and potentially create an income stream that will last throughout retirement.

Planning for retirement income that can last 25+ years may mean spending less in retirement than during the working years, but understanding how different financial tools can help optimize your income may help you avoid needless penny pinching in the early years of retirement. For instance, there are strategies that incorporate an income stream that won’t be realized until later in life, allowing for more spending early in retirement in anticipation of that future income.

According to investment advisor and insurance professional Paul DiGerolamo, of DiGerolamo Family Insurance LLC, in Norco, California, there are a variety of strategies for creating long-term income in retirement, each with its own risks and benefits. The “right” strategy will be different for everyone, DiGerolamo says, depending on factors that include level of assets, risk tolerance and life expectancy.

“One strategy is to rely on systematic withdrawals from a well-diversified investment portfolio,” DiGerolamo says. “By keeping assets invested in the market, growth potential is maintained as well as some degree of liquidity.”

While DiGerolamo stressed the need for ensuring diversification in the investment portfolio, he also cautioned that diversification can only manage risk; it does not ensure a profit nor guarantee against loss.

Provided markets perform well, the growth from invested assets can help create future income streams. One of the risks inherent in this strategy is that markets may not perform well, and if you have to continue making withdrawals, those losses will be realized and could impair the ability to provide income throughout retirement.

“An option within this strategy is to employ some fixed income assets, like bonds, and hold them to maturity,” DiGerolamo says. “These assets can support short- or medium-term spending, while a more aggressive investment portfolio with higher expected returns is deployed for long-term expenses.”

Having the bonds in place for near-term spending can give investors more comfort during times of market decline, knowing their potential to provide interest that may be used for income and that they have time for their stocks to recover before they must be sold, DiGerolamo says. The challenge, again, is that if there is a need to sell the bonds early, it could result in losses, both capital losses and the loss of assets that were needed to cover future spending.

A third option is to create a guaranteed income stream through the use of annuities. As an insurance product, fixed annuities are not subject to the rise and fall of the market, and the guarantees associated with them are backed by the financial strength of the issuing insurer.

“Fixed annuities can be real or nominal, and the initial payments can begin with one year (single premium immediate annuities, or SPIAs), or be deferred to a later age (deferred income annuities, or DIAs),” DiGerolamo says. “And because you can structure them to provide income for life, they can provide longevity protection by hedging the risks associated with not knowing how long you will live.”

But annuities have their drawbacks, as well. They do not provide growth potential and there are typically surrender charges associated with withdrawing funds in the first 10 years or longer, making them impractical for those who have liquidity needs or uncertain future budgeting strategies.

Every strategy or financial product has a variety of pros and cons that should be fully explored with a professional, DiGerolamo says, but generally speaking, he tends to prefer a mix of strategies that can play to the pros and help minimize the cons.

“Partially annuitizing assets can be an effective way to build an income floor for retirement, while maintaining an investment portfolio provides continued growth potential and some degree of liquidity,” he says. “The key really is to be aware of the need to create sufficient income throughout retirement, however long that may be.”

DREAM CENTER GULF COAST OPENS RELIEF OUTREACH CENTER IN GREENSPOINT

HOUSTON, TX – 7 June, 2016 – On June 23rd, at 2:00 P.M., The Dream Center Gulf Coast will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to officially celebrate the opening of their new “Relief Outreach Center” at Biscayne Apartments, 17050 Imperial Valley Drive, Houston, TX 77060. Dream Center Gulf Coast (DCGC) Founder, Holly Renken, and property owner, Steve Moore, will be present for the ceremony, along with Villa Serena Communities corporate staff, Dream Center Board Members, and with local officials as invited guests.

DCGC is grateful to have the cooperation of the owners of Biscayne Apartments/Villa Serena Communities, who have agreed to help by donating the facility to house the DCDG “Relief Outreach Center”.  The Center will provide Biscayne with “on-site” services up to 20 hours a week, and once the immediate needs of Biscayne have been addressed, the DCDG plans to continue servicing flood related needs in other Villa Serena Communities.

This partnership follows the Disaster Relief Outreach that DCGC hosted at Biscayne at Cityview Apartments on April 30th, where they served over 275 flood affected families in one day. Over 60 volunteers were on hand from the Dream Center Gulf Coast, as well as many others from partner organizations such as, Somebody Cares, Holy Smokes Barbeque and 16 churches from the Greater Houston Area. All provided much needed encouragement to flooded families by serving hot meals, praying with residents, and distributing water and basic necessities.

Founder Holly Renken says, “We are sending out a CALL TO ACTION to the community of Houston as well as around the WORLD to join us in this vision for the community. Every person has the honor and amazing opportunity to impact Houston in a positive way and WE NEED YOUR HELP!” In order to bring this vision to life, the Dream Center will need many full time interns, volunteers, financial resources, business partners and sponsors to help. Ms. Renken also says “We have BIG plans for Biscayne.” Among them, she hopes to be able to transform the timeworn tennis court, into a covered multi-functional area for recreation and enriching community activities.

The DCGC as well as Villa Serena Communities hope that this vision will create a community that is a model of what happens when people reach out with love, compassion, and resources… with a hands on approach. The book of Daniel has been historically confirmed as accurate, but Gabriel told Daniel that his vision was for “the time of the end” which can now be understood as key players seek world dominion.

Daniel uses fierce beasts of prey to represent key players in world dominion. Historically, the lion with eagle’s wings was Babylon. The bear was Medo-Persia and the leopard was Grecia (named in Daniel 8 and referring to Alexander the Great as its king hundreds of years before he was born,) Finally Rome was represented by the dragon with 10 horns (10 tribes grew out of the Roman Empire and roamed Europe as it fell apart. Also a “little horn” that the Protestant reformers saw as representing the papacy fits history.

But Daniel has a double application; Gabriel told Daniel that his vision in Daniel 8 was “at the time of the end.” The Medes and Persians are geographically Iraq and Iran and since history has confirmed Daniel, we may expect a second application of Daniel 7 where the “four beasts are four king[doms] that shall arise out of the earth” in verse 17. Babylon was already declining, so “shall arise” fits the end-time.

How appropriate those beasts are to represent major players now. The UK uses the symbol of a lion. The US has an eagle. Russia has been represented by a bear for 50+ years. The 4-headed leopard is an Oriental alliance and the dragon fits the EU with the papacy, but the UK (lion) is separate in Daniel’s imagery.

The big question might be, Will each beast conquer the previous one as in history, or will the lion with eagle’s wings represent a cultural alliance, the bear (Russia) could be military might, China an economic force and the EU with papacy as a religious leadership for a New World Order represented also as the image beast in Revelation 13 and ridden by the papacy—as seen in the 17th chapter where it alone fits the description of a church involved with rulers of nations, wealthy, dressed in scarlet, sitting on seven hills.

Some have wondered why the US isn’t seen in Bible prophecy, but they aren’t seeing it as the two-horned beast “like a lamb” that comes out of the earth in Revelation 13. Every other beast comes out of the sea which is said to be peoples, nations, and multitudes in the 17th chapter.

Coming out of the earth instead of sea would fit the US, emerging in the unpopulated New World, and its two horns with no crowns suggest a nation without a king and a church without a pope—Protestant America, which also brings fire from heaven (Hiroshima) and causes the world to make an image, a look-alike to the previous (papal) beast of the Old World.

New World Order headquartered in the UN will be like the Old World Order and it is this beast that causes all to be marked so that no one can buy or sell unless they conform. It lso involves false worship with the strongest warning in the Bible not receive that mark at the risk of God’s wrath and plagues, Revelation 14.

Revelation promises a blessing to all who read and “keep those things that are written.” It depicts church leaders as blind with materialism and naked (loins not girded with truth) in the 3rd chapter. Blind would include not seeing what’s impending and believing it doesn’t matter because they think they will be “raptured” when biblical support for that belief is lacking.

NEW YORK, NY – 8 June, 2016 – An award winning short action movie featuring a latina superheroine screens at the Eternal Con Film Festival this Friday, June 10th. The film festival will be held during the Eternal Con at the Cradle of Aviation Museum located at Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Garden City, NY 11530. The film festival starts at 7 p.m. and will be screened inside the IMAX theater within the museum.

FUERZA, (pronounced Foo-where-Sah), is about a woman endowed with superhuman powers that is put to the ultimate test when she must stop a group of supervillains, with extraordinary powers, from destroying her city or be eliminated in the process.

FUERZA is the Winner of the 2015 International Film Festival Manhattan for Best Short Film USA, Winner of the 2015 Urban Action Showcase Short Film Showdown for Best Super Hero Female (FUERZA) and 2015 Urban Action Showcase Special Effects Contest for Best Short Film. It has also been nominated for Best Art Direction for a Short at the 2015 Action on Film International Film Festival. It will soon be screened at the MartialCon located in Long Beach, California in August 2016.

FUERZA is produced, written and directed by Ralph Henriquez. Starring JESSICA MAS as FUERZA. The villains are played by JENNYMAR HOLMES as ALLURE, EMILIO PANTERO as REBEL, LIZA GALLETTI-RAMIREZ as WRATH and ROY JAMES WILSON as GRAVIS.
