They were all busy, but were aware of the alarm simultaneously due to the local monitoring software. They had already received the alarm immediately and had sent a site operative to investigate via radio. They activated all klaxons and master blasters on the site in order to initiate evacuation. All of the 800 site operatives were safely clear of the site after the sounders were alerted for a total of 24 minutes. The evacuation went smoothly and fire crews were able to deal with the blaze efficiently. 

The fire crews from Kirkdale, Old Swan and Liverpool City Centre arrived just after 12:30pm and spent just under an hour at the scene of the fire. According to a spokesman for the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, the fire broke out on the first floor of the new hospital’s construction site. The firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading and found the source – a metal tool box. If this fire was not detected sooner by the security system and personnel were not evacuated it could have been a much more dangerous situation.

By 1:30 pm the fire was out and three workmen had been seen to by paramedics at the scene. They did not require hospital treatment and no one was seriously injured.

The building will have 646 beds, 18 brand new state of the art operating theatres and 23 wards. The building has been steadily rising toward the skyline and building work has recently reached the milestone of being complete up to the fifth floor. The modern wards have been designed to take advantage of the natural light and the rooms will offer spectacular views across the city. Progress on the building is going very quickly and it is estimated that the external walls of the brand new hospital will be completed in the summer of 2016.

Safety manager Lee Groves spoke with Tag Systems after the fire and confirmed that there had been a fire and the system had been used to effectively evacuate the site. This is an excellent result, as the Tag Systems security monitoring set up in place has resulted in an early notification of the problem and has meant that no one on site was injured. The incredibly quick response to the fire has reduced the amount of damage and will improve the chances that construction of the hospital will continue on schedule.

Many people today, the older they get, the more narrow-minded they become; the chronologically-older they become, the more they sort of shut down. They start to narrow their view. Their life experience expands but their willingness to try new things, their willingness to step outside their comfort zone, shrinks. I want to help them stop that kind of aging. You’re putting a lot of faith and trust in that person, and we take that responsibility seriously,” commented Pawelko. “Unfortunately there are some disreputable companies in this industry, so we work extra hard to overcome that negative association. We’re not a hard sales organization. We come in, inspect the problem, talk to the homeowners and explain who we are so they can be comfortable with what we are recommending.”

Pawelko says that Pro Home 1 works in a two-step process with homeowners. The first step is an in-home consultation to see what the roofing issues are, and to take pictures of the affected area. They then prepare a 15-20 page report for the homeowner, which presents information, provides options, and reviews their business background and certifications. “Quite honestly, some contractors don’t have the necessary knowledge, or just want to offer the cheapest price to get the job and move on,” said Pawelko. “But we are looking to build lifetime relationships so customers will want us to come back time after time when they have siding, windows and other jobs down the road. So we try to find out what the homeowner is trying to accomplish, listen to their needs, and provide options in a no-pressure environment. We are proud of the work we do, and want our customers to be proud of their homes, too.”

UpDog announced that they added a feature for users to report inappropriate content. The change is pending Apple’s approval, however company officials have no reason to believe Apple will reject the change. 

“Since our content is user-generated, we need a mechanism in place for users to deem a video or comment as inappropriate,” states Joseph Mera of UpDog. 

The function is listed under the Share option beneath a review. “A user simply clicks ‘report inappropriate’, types a short message about the offensive material and hits Send,” states UpDog founder Bree Goldstein. “The system then sends us a message that includes the users comments and the video in question. At which point we can remove the content.” 

UpDog officials believe this feature will add to the application and make it more user-friendly for both consumers and organizations. “We don’t want offensive material, just honest, authentic experiences,” continues Mera.
