BudTrader.com opens new office in Silicon Beach in Preparation for its Canadian IPO

While preparing for their initial public offering (IPO) in Canada, BudTrader.com has announced that it has opened a new office in Santa Monica, CA. There have also been unconfirmed rumors the mega cannabis brand is renting a mansion in swanky Pacific Palisades based off recent Instagram posts (@realbudtrader). BudTrader.com and BudTrader.ca (Canadian Version) are classified ads platforms for the cannabis industry similar to Craigslist. BudTrader is the largest online medical marijuana marketplace in the world and BudTrader reports it has over 1 million registered users on its platform.

BudTrader, helmed by CEO Brad McLaughlin, recently expanded into merchant processing through its new joint venture with Greenway Payments Solutions, a debit card processing company for legal cannabis and CBD companies.

“Silicon Beach is about to get a lot more green,” says McLaughlin, referring to the nickname which Santa Monica has earned as tech and cryptocurrency heavyweight brands and billionaires are moving into the city in record numbers. “As soon as we started developing BudTrader, we knew we eventually had to go where the action is. The people in Santa Monica are so friendly too, and of course it’s so beautiful here.”

Neighboring businesses weren’t sure what to expect when they learned a cannabis company was moving in. “They weren’t what I expected. They look like they’re from Google, not a pot website,” says local businessman Tom Beaulieu whose company Water Place Media is in the same building as BudTrader’s. He added, “They seem like very polite, bright young guys.”

BudTrader.com is one of the fastest growing cannabis tech brands, and currently operates in 29 states where cannabis is legal, and also in Puerto Rico, Washington D.C. and Canada. The brand is headquartered in San Diego, CA, where the state of the art BudTrader Campus was built in 2017.

On a recent episode of The Inside Track on Business Innovators Radio with Markus Loving, Rich Martin, Co-Founder of Paper Tiger Document Solutions, discussed the Myths and Misconceptions of Document Shredding and Destruction.

According to Martin, their business grew as concerns over identity theft grew and federal and state regulations increased.

Martin, said “Over the last 15 or 20 years, there’s been a lot of federal, as well as state regulations, on handling sensitive information; social security numbers, birth certificates, just all types of information that needs to be securely destroyed once the life cycle of that paper or other media is over. You’ve got HIPA, FACTA, and other regulations. And then there’s identity theft. So there’s a growing number of people and businesses who are a lot more cognizant of the need to make sure their material is securely destroyed and that’s exactly what we do. We say we’re in the shredding business but we’re really in the security business”.

When host Markus Loving asked what he felt was one of the most common misconceptions that businesses have about document shredding? Martin answered, “They think it’s going to be a big hassle to have someone come in and take care of this for them. So we just try and allay their fears. We come in and take care of everything because a lot of times they’ll think, ‘Oh well, I got all this stuff. It’s in the basement or it’s over in this storage facility and now I’ve got to go and get it and bring it to you’ and all that sort of thing. We’re just like, ‘No, we’ll take care of everything.’ If it’s up in an attic or down in the basement or in some storage facility, we’ve got the manpower and the know how to take care of the entire process for them”.

During the Interview Martin shared how he got into this field and started in this business?, explaining, “I used to work for a couple of guys who were in the self-storage business. Back in the late 80’s / early 90’s, the self-storage business was sort of on the wane and they wanted to fill up some space in a couple of their storage facilities. So we got into the document storage business as a means to fill up that space and get revenue from it. When the market came back for self-storage, four years later, they wanted to get out of the business. And since I had basically started the document storage business with them, I was the natural person to take over that business. So I moved two different warehouses into one up here in Gurnee, Illinois, at about the same time my first child was born back in 1996. So I’ve been in the business for a long time. We were initially just in the document storage business. As things progressed, we had a lot of customers who, after the life cycle of the paper they were having stored with us was over, wanted us to destroy it. At that time, we weren’t in the document destruction business. So the shredding business has been a natural outgrowth of our document storage business and it’s currently the major growth area of our company”.

The interview concluded with Martin saying “Document shredding and destruction is going to be a lot easier than they think. And when they reach out to us, we’ll walk through every step of the process and make it as easy as possible for them”.
